VW noob here
Hello i am Jeremy and i am wanting to know if this will be any go for me http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1974-VW-beetle-driveable-/150534020365?pt=AU_Cars&... if i do get it i can't drive it till i am 18
and that is 5 years away this is my first car i want to fix it up with some mods i want a stock engine and any other missing parts that i need and
were is a good site to buy rims ? i want upgrade brakes,seats,shocks and any other mods that u think i should do.I have never worked on a real car
before but i have the tools because i am into rc cars so i kinda know how to work on cars but if i have to i will buy more tools for it is there a VW
tool it ? and is there a wiring kit for them also are there any VW clubs in Australia Melbourne Vic for me to go to and ask stuff? thats all for now
sorry for it been kinda long but i am kinda a noob also i have a $5000 budget for this but can't spend all at once

hi and welcome to the site, that bug might be the best bug for a baja, ask if its got IRS, if it has ....... grab it!!
tamia V vw, i think you'll need a few more tools, remember that VW are all metric so cheap AF / imperial are a waste of cash!
wiring on your bug is very easy and soooo simple, grab a couple of workshop manuals there should be diagrams etc in the back, good bed time reading as
well! (better for your eyes than zoo magazine)
as for clubs i'm sure someone more local to you can advise, if you were WA side theres a few i could mention!

any tips and tricks i should know about this one? also can i get a engine rebuild kit and wire kit and just rebuild kits to great it back to running
again i want to just make it my first car but good like i see peoples first cars and they are c*** boxes i want something nice i am going to get it re
painted silver or blue or both my plan is to take the body off first then the engine and take a look at everything the take everything off the body
then sent it to a guy to fix it strip it then do body work then paint also were can i get a new front bumper?

classic vee dub parts are common as anything and still available far and wide brand new.
You can get all the gear to rebuilt ur engine for a few retailers... depends which way u want to go in regards to kit. You can buy whole entire seal
kits for the engine for about $30... new piston and barrel/ring kits for $200ish (standard) and bearings/cam/crank depends if you can use your old one
and if they are alright.. otherwise take it to someone who can check clearances and recommend u options in regards to regrinding, replacing or which
sized bearings u require.
brand new bumpers are readily available.

There are so many others... the three above are ht ones i have delt with successfully and they post to your door.
Off the body resto is the tidiest way to go about it properly.
Be careful with empi labelled equipment... particularly if its precision based componentry (engine stuff or shocks etc). Its not purist nonesense and
nuffin but the truth when it is said if you can go german or NOS its the better quality. Save ill fitting components ( ive learnt the hard way) Heck
my empi oil filler when screwed down has a breather that ends up pointing facing the ground.. where the bloody oil will poor right into the breather
line if i started to fill it up. how stupid!

forget the second car, the 76 is DEFINITLY the way to go. dont bother with a 12v conversion, stick with the later bug, its the BEST car for the job,
you'll have loads of fun and gain a bucket load of experience on the construction of the car etc etc. make your own lift kit,
ps some patience might be a good idea too!

That black baja like most early bugs has had a 12volt conversion done long ago
unless you like bodywork a solid vw with bad mechanics is alot better proposition than a good runner with shitty body.
Mechanics are all bolt in easily replaced but fixing rust and accident damage can turn into a huge and costly job
Nearly all have rust, but it pays off in the long run to pay abit extra initially and get a good body than spending heaps fixing one up

hey mate, i can totally relate to you with your situation.. im 14 and im restoring a 56 bug, i can offer a few tips for fixing vw's
1. buy something that is reasonable (buy a hunk of shit and you will spend far more money getting it to where you want it)
2. Buy something that is licenced! (my bug isnt and there are so many hoops to jump through)
3. dont dig holes! (remember you might just want to change a flat tire.. you will end up overhaulin the brakes, gearbox.. etc etc)
4. if you dont need it now. dont worry about it! (unless you want a project to do in your spare time, dont worry until your 17, i earn 100 a week and
that all goes to my project, where as someone my age is having fun with that money...)
i have to say if you want a project i, go for it.. but remember cars are a commitment
