EJ25 idles at 2500rpm - Solved

I have just put the motor back in the buggy behind the new Subaru gearbox. It has been 4 months since this thing has run, and now the idle is at least 2500rpm.....goes to 3000rpm when it warms up!!.

Moving the ICV makes no difference. I dont have any ECU error codes to say that I haven't connected anything up.

When I disconnect the cable to the ICV, the idle drops right down, but it runs like a hairy goat.

What else should I look for ? or could it just be that the ICV is stuck ?

Cheers,
Mark

Assuming it's not something silly like and an air leak or your throttle is cracked open slightly (maybe cable not slack enough?) Check your TPS reading if its not throwing a code

I checked the throttle cable, but it is fine. I doubt it is an air leak, but I will check. I only have the engine light to check error codes, I dont have a scanner. Some idiot cut the scanner connector off the loom !!!.......

I've solved it, but not entirely sure how :-).

I took the top off the ICV to make sure that the valve wasn't stuck. It didn't appear to be so, I put it all back together and it worked!!!

Maybe you free'd up the carbon/oil deposits. Carb cleaner works a charm if it happens again

I actually have half a dozen cans of the Subaru "upper engine cleaner", I just cant find it after we moved house !!!

Once I track it down I will run another can through, but for now it seems to be working well.

First thing I did after getting our EJ22 running in the bus was to run a can of genuine Subaru engine cleaner thru. The black stuff that came out the exhaust the first few times was quite impressive.
