Axle Boot Sealant?
I've searched the forum and google'd it (Sides!)
I havn't been able to find what type of sealent people are using when replacing axle boots. (Swing axle).
Do I use any at all?
The bently manual I have suggest that it should be done using VW sealant ### but obviously this doesn't exist anymore.
Can anyone help?
If it helps I got the best boots that Boris had at Vintage.
Cheers
Shaun

I don't use any sealant on mine, make sure all the surfaces are smooth and clean, then tighten em up gently, the screws along the split is done up
till the washers JUST start to bulge the rubber a teeny bit, then do the hose clamps up the same, not so the oil can get out but not enough to squeeze
the rubber from under the clamp.

So the procedure is
jack up car and place jack stands under
remove old boot and then clean axle
jack up under axle/wheel to get axle level
replace new boot and place hose clamps on loosely and then tighten the bolts to be firm not tight
then lower car down off jack stands and tighten the hose clamps when car is back on ground?
Cheers

my south american cousin...
believe it or not my uncle spells his name that way because my grandmother wanted to call him Juan but in 1957 it didn't sit well with the family!
