Wheel arch rust repair
Hi all.
Was wondering if anyone can give me some advice about rust repair inside both the rear wheel arches of a Type 3.
Is it a case of getting sheet metal bent and welded into place? Or would you need to get a replacement panel for instance?
Also, can anyone give me a rough idea of the cost? I know it's a bit tricky as you never know what other surprises will pop up, but are we talking
$100's or $1000's here?
I've had a good look around and the rest of the car and it's all pretty clean. It's mostly just these bloody arches giving me a problem now!

If you can do it yourself properly, it will cost hundreds. You could pay some to cover it up without repairing it properly, and that would cost a few
hundred also.
To pay someone to cut it all out properly, fabricate and weld in new sections like original could cost thousands.

Hmm. Hard decision.
Well my original intention was to get the car running and registered as soon as possible so I can drive it around whilst the weather is still ok and
take it to a couple shows etc. Then over winter I was going to put it back in the shop from some more serious work.
I think with this rust I'll just treat it then patch it up for blue slip, then get it fixed properly over winter.
It's so frustrating, the rest of the car is rust free, even the bits that normally rust pretty bad. Oh well...

do it yourself or get a good preferably a small business panel beater to cut out and replace. generally rust repair is very cost effective, its the
painting that kills ya.
it might cost you from 250-500 from the looks of it to get it cut out welded and primed.
finishing it in top coat cost you well over a grand.

Yeah it's just been patched up with fibreglass for now for rego. Luckily the rust seems to be contained. Will get it fixed properly over the winter.

Azzatron, pm polak on here Adam @ Raw or call him or Mike, they can either patch it up or fix it properly. They do great work, pretty much specialise
in old VW's and quite a few members on here would recommend them. The have worked on my notch and will do rust repairs in the roof.
