Very cool race car.
I would love to run in the historics.
What type of events do you run in? (e.g. speed, timed, circuit)

Hi Steve,Marcus
Thanks for the interest.Car 64 was built to NB historic specs.
Have raced in historic sprints twice against Mustangs, minis and Eh holdens.
have had a first place and second.has run 14.2secs over 1/4 mile.
Will be uploading more photos and specs at later date.
Running at Ballarat at Easter @ re-enactment of 1961 motor racing, will inform progress.
'57 ovl is almost complete, have spent mega bucks and will be for sale.
I will be uploading all photos and details of money spent.
Regards John |

I'm with Marcus on that! love the retro style racers. but I reckon Marcus might be a bit shy on the 1300. looks more like a 1835 or bigger?? Not
sure what the NB specs are but I would have thought you would have to be under 2 litre at least and maybe even 1600 max?
love the flash and BRM's and are those VDO gauges under the dash and a Porsche 356 tacho??

Love the race car, but while I lack the expertise of others on this forum that motor looks far more potent than a 1300!

Class Nb must be in the same cubic capacity class as the original motor was; and cc can be varied within that; meaning that a 1200 could be made a
1300 but a 1300 (1285) doesn't have much scope for capacity change.
This looks like it has DP 1300 heads off a later model beetle; which strictly speaking isn't allowed by the rules. But there is a spec sheet that has
been approved by cams that shows a car with DP heads and a 34mm carb running in the more restrictive Na class so because its been approved previously
its all above board.
I would love to hear more details of this car as i've always wondered how competitive a bug would be in class Nb; I run a 1300 deluxe in regularity
at historic meets with a stock motor and thought watching the class Nb cars that a bug couldn't be made competitive against some of the others in the
class.
Cheers
Shaun

link to class regs.
Also FYI a 1300 can be made for power; see the blogs by this bloke in the UK with a GAC built 1300 running twin 44 idf's and FK cam with 140bhp.
Problem is all his power is above 5500rpm!!!

A 1275 Cooper S would take a bit of beating........however, it would be a lot of fun trying.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

How is this Beetle going in the Nb class-Still racing?Looks great!!
I used to work at a Mini garage in Sydney who raced cars in Nb and the Sports Sedans.Minis were my first love-now trying to move onto a Beetle
I would have thought a 1300cc or 1600cc Beetle would struggle to keep up with a Mini Cooper S - isn't it just a bit heavier?Whats a Beetle
weigh,about 850kg?

A stripped 1200 model bug should be around 700-720kg without driver just guessing though as I haven't weighed mine yet but am going on my rego prior
to stripping
An advantage a bug has though is it's better under brakes than the mini's
Also a mini gets better lap times in the race as they get sucked along as they generally stay with the big cars on the track until the straight; I
improved my lap time by 2 secs at wakefield park purely by tailing a valiant lap after lap down the straight; loosing him but then getting him back by
turn 2 and loosing again up the hill.
