Could be round or square depending on when it was made.
4th post down summarises the 3 types made in for the 1956 year model:

Thought that it was sold. Maybe I should have a look at it - an oval rag-top, mmmmmm!:tu:

Trust you to bring things back down to earth, Warb! What are you saying to that little girl? Sure made her mad. The beard's coming along nicely. Sorry.....getting off topic.

Seriously though, I wouldn't mind that oval rag-top. How many cars is too many? When is a shed too big? How do you know how long you will live? Sighhhh.

I think you should definitely do it Greg.

Just think of the possibilities:
* First you could put the body on a later pan with IRS :smirk: http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=88880&page=1#pid827526
* Then you could replace the beam from a tractor with something like this http://www.red9design.co.uk/wishbones.htm
* Then you could get rid of the drums with something like these: http://www.csp-shop.de/cgi-bin/cshop2/front/shop_main.cgi?func=det&wkid=4... and http://www.csp-shop.de/cgi-bin/cshop2/front/shop_main.cgi?func=det&wkid=4... (make sure they comply with ADR first though)
* Then to keep the engine cool you could have something like this http://store.vintagespeed.com.tw/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flyp...

If only I had the money and space I know I would!!

Craig  :dork:

Thanks very much Craig.........You've just ruined the surprise, as that was EXACTLY what I had in mind - plus a few Baja type mods etc. Now Steve knows about my plans, he probably won't let me have it :sniffle: Bugger!

Sacre bleu!!!

I'm hardly a purist, but it seems a shame, although without knowing what it was like before being bajaed, you can't criticise. It's better than it ending on the scrap heap or rusting to nothing in a field or shed. I'm sure with enough money it could be returned to stock  It would certainly get people talking (and perhaps yelling and brandishing sharp objects) at VW meets.

I do like the way they've parked defiantly across the gutter, more or less just to prove that they can

It was an absolute basket case and it was done mainly to piss off the purists
