"Racing" (?!?!) @ Raleigh (new pics added)

What a day!

Saw some great action, couple of spins, awesome open wheelers of Peter Gumley and Stan Pobjoy, quite a few beetles, a golf that revelled on the tight track, a smart looking green and yellow beetle that failed to impress, Frazer's turbo fasty, and a really quick John Dear 'Gator'.

Only 1 'V-Force' racer, where were Jak and CT?

A bit disappointing that times weren't kept - something to do with insurance I guess.

Would love to have been there.

Tell me more about the day. My mate Greg had his blue pobjoy beetle there. How did he go? He was trying to beat Craig in the white pobjoy beetle.

I was planning to go to Nambucca. I was just going to go for fun not serious racing. I was going to race on my street tyres, go in the parade and enter my oval in the show.

Unfortunately I got the flu after Jak and I raced at Golburn 2 weeks ago. The weekend took a lot out of me and Golburn is only 200kms away. I'm not totally over the flu and I don't think I could put up with the noisy webers in a freezing beetle for over 12 hours in a weekend.

I'm going to take the beetle for a run up to Jak's house on Sunday so that we don't get too depressed missing out on Nambucca.

I've got to say that the organisation of the event was pretty ordinary. I emailed them and tried to find out if I could race on the Saturday but got no response. With no CAMS permit I didn't think there would be any racing. Last time I went to Nambucca they only let me race on the Friday. Then I turned up on the Saturday and they were trying to get cars to run on the track.

CYA, CT:(

That's right CT, hence the "racing?!?!"

There were no times recorded, just driving for fun/display. In the end most people were just trying to see who could get around the first long right hander flat out.

Both Greg and Craig were there. All this stuff about Craig being a fat bastard is simply not true - he doesn't look an ounce over 15 stone! :P

The green and yellow machine was driven by John Van Look who is going to featured in the ZOOM mag shortly. It looks awesome, but I think he's still got some sorting out to do. Should be another contender for the Porsche days I'd say.

LMHO Rhys

I was going to mention Frazers forgetable first lap, but I could see him stressing out with his mobile phone around the back of the Fasty with the engine lid open. Didn't think he'd appreciate it.

I had a great time sliding all over the track, and i hope to have another go with some stickier tyres and a straight body and some skill :D
a couple of people had stopwatches and sooner or later some times will be posted. just leave mine out of it heehehe :P
hey chris, i saw you guys leaving nambucca around fourish, but spent too much time at servos and coffee breaks to catch you all up. bummer about the bottom end- was it that oil ring? might be time to get a temp guage despite your feelings on guages. the fasty looked like fun on the track. this is gonna be a fun thread :D
