How to make aluminium door trims.
Nige Type 3 asked me how I did my aluminium door trims. I thought I'd tell the world rather than just Nige.
The door panels are easy. I stripped my ratty door trims down to the board. Then I used it as a template. I just bought some 0.3mm aluminium and
clammed the door trim do it then drew the holes and an outline on the aluminium. Then I got out the drill, hole saw and jig saw and started cutting. I
didn't want to bastardise my car with screws or rivets so the panels are just held on with the factory clips and rubber seals. The clips are
squashed a bit to allow for the fact that the aluminium is slimmer than the board.
After a year I figured the panels were noisy. They used to boom and rattle. So I got some neoprene wetsuit material from clark rubber and glued that
to the back side and put it back on. It worked a treat
You'll notice the one corner I stuffed up. When the jig saw caught slightly it bent the thin aluminium.
