type3 panel question

I have a front d/s panel that I'm trying to tie down what years it was for.
Has wrap around indicator with a smaller cut-out than later models I have. I'm guessing it is 68-70 can anyone confirm this.
Cheers

Hey how can you tell if it was from a fastback? I think squarebacks outsold notches and fasty's combined.

with slim trim and the side indicators it has to be a very late 68 through to the end of the 69 model year. and all model type 3's for late 68-69 had the same indicators in the side and front.

Am I missing something?

I think it a 69 guard, a 68 guard would have a finger indent to open the fuel flap from the outside. Although both 68 and 69 types were sold in Australia as 69 models. This is because the first CKD type3s came as 69 models in Australia but the first few were German 68s. An Australian 68 model was the last of the type3s with panels pressed here and they had no fuel flap and thin trim.

There are a quite few late 68's around with the fuel flap release mechanism. These are exactly the same spec as a 69. there are some on here owned by Aussieveedub forum members, myself included. They are from August 68, for the 69 European model year. Not Aussie spec cars, these are fully imported.
So it can be off a late Northern hemisphere spec 68, more likely to be off a 69 though.

Thats because August is the start of the VW model year. So August 68 will be a 69 spec car.

I already made that point quite clearly. You stated it can only be a 69, I said it can be a late 68. I never said it wasn't a 69 model year car. In fact I said it was a 69 spec car. I'm a bit confused as to what it is you're trying to point out?

Sorry for the confusion. I reread your post and you did point out that a August 68 is a 69 spec car. I call cars from August 68 a 69. I did not realize there were fully imported type3s in Australia from that time. That makes sense I did know there are fully imported T1s from 68-69.

so as I said a 69 guard.... glad we all worked that out....

in the country in which you are selling the guard it is known as a 69 guard... regardless of where the car it is no longer attached to was originally assembled....
