Hey Guys,

Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum and new to the VW scene too, but i wanted to try something different

I am a civil engineering student from melbourne, with a avid interest in almost anything with a motor-

history of my eclectic cars-
1964 Holden EH (+parts car)
1973 Datsun 260Z
1972 Holden Gemini TD wagon
1971 Holden Gemini TD Panelvan
1982 Holden Corona Wagon
1989 Saab 900i
1998 Subaru WRX
1992 Subaru RS Liberty Sedan
1990 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon
1993 Subaru RS Liberty Wagon

and two motorbikes in there aswell.

i come to this forum as i have a new project in mind, but firstly i would like to point out that im not a young bloke on school holidays. I have an EJ20T out of the legacy mentioned above in my shed collecting dust and i want to put it to use.

i understand this isnt the place to discuss these things, but i would muchly appreciate a little step in the right direction.
- firstly, would i be able to be pushed into the right direction of someone who has done a subaru conversion to a beetle please?

- secondly, what is required to get the front macpherson suspension of a superbug onto an early bug (for a shorter chassis), or is it worth using something else?

and now i can tell you my plans, i plan to buy a bug, use its chassis (virtually nothing above that), and create a open-wheeler body for track use only powered by an EJ20T

so far a beetle is the best platform i can think of due to there relative cheapness and amount of people who have "EJ'd" them. But if you have any suggestions for me, please feel free to let me know.

my research shows i also may need someone who has alot of beetle gearboxes

Not sure why noone has answered you yet, I think they like me have all missed your post.

Gearbox wise you might be better off going with the subaru 5 speed gearbox conversion from Subagears.

you could even look at a mid mounted setup, a bloke I know has a Purvis Eureka with a EJ20T mid mounted with a stock subi box behind it, much better Formula Vee like handling on the track with a mid mount setup.

Start posting your questions in the non VW engine conversions section you may get abit more responses.

The strut front end into an early car has been done before but it's alot of work

THe new A arm mendola front ends now are ahead of struts but they're not cheap.
