Very bad oil leak
I drove my 1500 Bug today around 1 km and parked it in the drive way. When I went out to drive away a few minutes later, I noticed oil dripping from
where the engine joins the transmission. I looked under the car and there was probably half the total oil capacity on the ground. It was dripping out
at around 2 drips per second.
Is it the big oil seal behind the flywheel, that's let go?
Please can anyone help with what this problem is?
Regards,

there's an input shaft seal into the gearbox, and a main crankshaft seal on the engine. both of these would be a slower leak.
I would guess it is a cracked case, or sometimes the camshaft wears through welsh plug in the case at the rear of the camshaft. or the welsh plug
simply fell out.

Unfortuneately i would agree ( no offence Wes )
But that is one fast leak. I cant imagine a front seal letting go that big.
Also - if it was parked the oil level would not be that high. If you have lost a litre then it HAS to be coming from down low

What about the oil cooler? It could be split or the rubber seals have failed and the oil has run down.

Possible but i would have tought that would have run down the back (back is back) or at least the side.
The way Mark describes it it sounds too much oil for a cooler.
Whatever - motor out is probabally the first step
