Its obvious that the suby conversion is the most popular, but it makes one wonder, there mustn't be many sooooobies left on the road??????

You're kidding right?
That's like saying 30 years ago there can't be many VWs left on the road, they've all been cut up for shooting buggies and manxs.

There's millions of the things on the roads
come for a holiday up this way Subaru's are like the damn plague here, 2 in every 10 cars I pass will be Subis.

Subi converted dubs are popular but not that popular, there's far more conversions going on inside subi circles with people converting old L series and Brumbys to EJ power.

My comment was based on the majority of threads under "Non VW engine conversions" in Aussieveedubbers. Personally, I prefer other air cooled engines, as subies new or old, do nothing for me.

I dont mean to get anyones nose out of joint, I dont dislike them, infact, I enjoy the engineering that many members undertake to get these motors purring in their favorite rides, I just said, that the motors dont do anything for me, I started this thread only because I have realised that the most favored conversion, is the suby, new or old.

With respect VolksVair your original post read in the negative and therefore was taken to be a thread of dislike for Subie engines.

That may well have not been meant- as you have explained. As I am looking from the outside in, so to speak, being a new member of this forum, and one that appreciates all the support it gives from its contributers, it is not an uncommon event. I know this from other forums.

You really need to spell out your intent of the thread more clearly so as not to give the wrong idea. Trouble is of course that forums where there are versions of vehicles there is always an issue.

Trikes have VW trikes and Bike based trikes
Mazda's have Rotary and non Rotary
Even Morris Minors have original and Datsun conversions etc
I'd assume there are pro viagra takers and natural "only" lovers too?

It has amused me over the years to watch and see conflict among these original vs modified. Now in my case it has been a little of EJ vs EA- having made my decision to go EA in my trike. But I put forward my reasoning and most understand that it is in the end my decision. It may not make sense to some and there is the "all that trouble might as well go EJ" viewpoint. I respect their view and they are only trying to assist. They might not realise unless I spell it out that my needs are simpicity, no computer etc. I'm older too which is a factor. Having explained that most accept it.

So you should spell out all of your reasons for your initial post and use smilies to express your angle. This allows others to know if you are indeed smiling or cheesed of. It all comes down to communicating effectively. :starhit:

Subaru into VW's might be a sad thing in a way but there are many reasons some go down that path or not. You mention Subaru as being such a popular conversion....

I went down the path of investigating every conceivable option from V4 SAAB (very light low torque but rare here), Rotary, Lancer etc.It came down to common sense and in my view wisdom of the boxer layout. That's why they are so popular.

I have learnt over the years, looking from both sides.

I supercharged an old Holden 202. I continually get asked why I didn't just put a V8 in it or a turbo Nissan RB30!

Our 75 Bus has an EJ22 Subaru engine now, and I get asked why I didn't put a twin cam later engine or a turbo engine?

So when I see 1989 V6 Commodore engines, or Nissan RB20, or Holden 253, or Mitubishi Sigma 4 or any other lower size conversion into an another car, I just get interested instead. It's the journey that interests people.

Everyone says you should do the Kakoda Trail, or the Inca Trail, or some other grand well known popular walk. So why cant we do the Lilydale-Warburton rail trail, or the Eastern Freeway bike trail? A journey does not have to be popular to be enjoyed.;)

I think that sums it up nicely. Hopefully the last time this type of thread pops up, but probably not.
