100PCD 6.5x15
I can get my hands on a set of wheels that I think will go really well with my car. Question is, will I be able to convert to 4x 100PCD and still
upgrade to front vented discs and rear solids without having to search everywhere for suitable parts? (which I'm sure will be around)
I know it's a bit ass-about as most people find the wheels to suit the hubs.
So my question is, have people converted Type 3 to 4x 100PCD before?

Hi
John Sherman in Brisbane will drill the hubs and discs for You
ring Him and ask if anyone has done it before...
I really think that 100 pcd could be too small for a VW...
100MM = 4 INCHES...
that is a very small PCD ...

Easy as.
As Cam said I've had mine like that for about 6 years now.
It's 4 wheel discs, rears are made from type3 rotors and my new front discs I gotta swap on are type3 as well, they're pretty much identical to
Beetle.
4x100 and 4x98 are the only patterns that are safe to convert stock brakes to.
They both fit inside the 4x130 pattern so pick up the 4 strengthening ribs.
4x114.3 is too big to do this and would need blanks.
2 ways you can go, tap in the 12mm threads which means you can always fit VW rims back on at any time (spare tyre for example) or have them spot faced
and get studs pressed in and just find a 4x100 space saver spare tyre which is what I did.

Awesome, thanx Joel. Now I only need to check the clearance on the inside as the rims have an off-set of 38mm.
Did you change the master cylinder Joel, or can you run stock with your rear discs?
This is good news, as I can have a fairly cheap conversion to all-round discs and still use stock parts

that is great news Joel..
I thought You would need new discs and drums....
Excellent news...
there was a fellow on here years ago who crashed His Beetle and his brake drum [i think?] broke off...
it didn't cause the crash.... the drums had been redrilled in the thin parts of the drum.... very thin....
insurance company wouldn't pay because of the redrilled drums....

et38 6.5s should be a nice fit if you ran something like a 195/60 tyre.
I had some 15x6.5s on mine that were et35 and a snug fit but type3s run a tiny bit more pos offset than a bug.
I'm just running a stock m/c with volksconversions rear kit, it's a well balanced setup with stock front discs.
Lee, it's when people tap 5 stud into stock brakes it's very dodgy.
Theres only 4 strengthening webs in the hub as you know so with 5 studs it misses most of them.
One of my other bugs had Porsche wheels on retapped type3 brakes.
3 and half of the of the 5 bolt holes only had about 3-4 threads each being tapped into the thin part.
Very dodgy.

Thanx Lee,
I intend on screwing in short stud (flush with the face) in the old holes with superstrong locktite to provide support for the material around it. And
the new holes will stay in the ribs.
