Gauges in Dash (also show us your gauges)
With a pending engine build happening in the next 18 months I am looking to install a taco, oil temp and oil pressure gauges in my beetle. Would be
interested to see what options i have in the type of gauge and where i can mount them.
Lets see lots of pics please.

In my 1968 I have the oil pressure and oil temp in a small pod mounted just under the ash tray.
And with my Baja I remade the RHS panel that goes next to the speedo in alloy. Then mounted the gauges to this. Along with some switches etc. Looks a
bit rough here but cleaned up a lot nicer.

I think that speedo might need some calibration. Says he's doing 40 odd with no rpm, oil pressure etc.

As for the style of gauges..Ive been eyeing off a few Autometer gauges and dont mind the American Muscle series gauges..Their slightly retro and I
reckon would look home in the wifes beetle dash.
Have you looked at the AIRKEWLD website paulc1964au?.. They have a steering column billet mount that houses 2 gauges either side under the dash. These
brakets are specific for earlier models not like our 68-70 models..but gives you an idea?..If they make them for later models I would definately
consider their gauge mounts.

not the best pic but u get the idea of my old baja..
the left was oil pressure then the right was boost and air fuel mix with the fual guage and watter temp under the ashtray. the only thing i would have
changed is the mout for the tacho, i would mount it under the dash on the right side so it wasnt sticking up so much...
steff......

Don't know if you're still checking this thread but or not but here is the rough version of mine
depending on how far you want to go with it. I've cut a speedo ring out of another dash and welded it in... then i searched for an autometer 5inch
tacho that doesn't have a shift light (won't fit otherwise).
the standard speedo ring is a little smaller than 5 inches (no photos of testing fitting, sorry)
then just fab a bracket to fit the standard mounts.
"So... when will the bug be finished?"
HA, better question: "will it ever be finished?"..

Bringing this one back to life...
I am in the midst I wiring, but have decided (after putting the new main harness through the roof) to put in a tacho, oil temp gauge and voltage
gauge. I would love to hear people's thoughts on the best way to wire these up, in particular getting the sender wires through to the back (carpets
are all in). Should i go under the car (external) ? Or try to get back through the heater channel?
Any ideas?
Cheers
Phil

Mine is 67, so early type 1, the harness is through the roof . Dont want to pull it back out for a couple of sender wires... I guess I will have to
look at options under or through other parts of the car. Take note those planning a rebuild- don't leave the gauges too late!!
