well i went and bought a squareback whoop whoop here is some pics of work so far not found much rust so all the usual rot spots look pretty good although never had a type 3 before (had busses and bugs in the past)[img]http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k519/dave1342/267654_10150377162874782_837084781_10374339_3442021_n.jpg

Hi Dave, I had a 73 Square just like that one for years. They drive the best out of all type3s I think.

Your car seems to be mostly complete and standard, So thats a good thing. I hope you do not find too much more rust to fix.

Keep the updates coming on your progress. I'm sure you will like it when you start driving it.

Thanks guys I always wanted one of these took a while to get the wife onboard mind ha ha. Im not convinced about the colour think that's gonna have to change. Im not scared of a bit of rust coming from UK have had a few old dubs in the past and the best I had back there had heaps more than this so I'm pretty chuffed so far had done a fair but of digging around it and hardly anything at all. Will keep posting progress when I can

Those 2 cars look like simular colours but I think the 72 is Wattle and 73 is Mustard. I like all the factory colours, If you paint them standard colour its much easier and its never wrong. My 2c but hey it's your hot rod.

I'm gonna go standard colours and if it was any other colour I wouldnt care but when I look at it I think it looks like a taxi and can't stop thinking about it that way ha ha. The roof lining is shot so that's all out now along with the dash switches etc I figure if Im gonna paint it which I still would have had to do if I kept it the same colour I may aswel change it to something I like and paint the inside too

Don't forget to remove the fresh air box, you can feel up and inside for rust. More than likely it's there.

If it is, it's not hard to cut an inspection hole in from the boot. In the 'bulge' at the back of the boot, just below the fresh air inlet you will see a line of spot welds ~2/3rds of the way up. Stay above that line. If you start high and work your way down, there is a seam of rubber/body filler there and best to stay away from that if you can to ease repairing. Or eve nbetter make a removable panel you can check in there once in a while.

I love '73's, best of the lot :)
