Gearbox noise

Hi, I bought a new old beetle havent got it out of first gear as yet as Its not running slick yet however I think the gearbox may be have a whinning noise. It is a t3 box in a t1 beetle are they normally noisy and will a lack of oil in the case make it noisy ( I havent checked it as yet )

I think its noisy compared to my 1200 beetle might be fine. that why i am asking

If its broken etc whats the possible cause and the cost to fix and tips and suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks

Guys

Low oil or worn out gearbox will make noise. Mind you, given the age of it, it will never be as quiet as a brand new car gearbox (so i have been told).

If it doesn't pop out of gears, check oil, replace and perhaps add an additive and turn up the stereo if sound continues lol. My kombi gearbox whines like mad, but drives good :tu:

try fresh oil with nulon G70 additive.

I put G70 in my 0.5 million k T5 box and its a whole different box. Didn't stop noise in mine as its quite noisy (sounds like a straight cut racing box )
but did reduces it a bit. The biggest thing I noticed is how much frigen good it shifts. I can how shift as quick and if not quicker than some autos
