Fuse Box


Hey all.

I'm looking to upgrade to blades fuses in Alyce and do a bit of a wiring tidy up.

Was just wondering what blade fuse boxes everyone is using?

I would prefer something that has relay mounts built into it as well, do any suppliers make these?

Or is there a production vehicle out there that is suitable to be retrofitted?

Any help appreciated.

Why not use a T3 fusebox these have the relay mounts etc.

I did look at this or a later superbug one.

But I want to do away with the crappy ceramic fuses more than anything. I just figured while I was tidying the wiring I'd add some relays while I was going to take some load off my headlight circuits.

It's only the last few years of T25/T3/Vanagon/caravelle/brick shaped van thingy that had wedge fuses.
Ones before that were old ceramic style

Bout 85 onwards.

Not when it comes to fuseboxes I'm not.

Still on the cruddy stock one, Lbugs are a PITA to adapt anything as the stock one is made to fit mounting brackets under the dash but I'll work something out one day.

Got the dash and engine bay ones from the Subaru here but they are huge.
The Inside one even has its own light so you can see the fuse panel at night if one blows :crazy:

Hi

I bought two Narva 8 way fuse boxes and cut the VW relay plate away from the stock fuse box and mounted the relay plate remotely.

With a VW you need several different circuit feeds, battery power, light feed, ignition feed, ignition feed that cuts out on cranking etc.

use the later type 3 fuse box why go to blade type fuses the origionals are great

I re shaped the under dash area to fit the type 3 fuse box in and use the relay holder built in works well

They don't work well when they corrode all the time. Plus it's far less of a pain when you're out offroading with people if you can share fuses if you have to.

Look at vehicle wiring products in the UK. They do modular fuse boxes so you can make it how you want plus they do other types too.

Very good stuff and cheap even with shipping. Used em for my custom wiring loom and works great :)

I have replaced My fusebox with a new one [off ebay] with push in fuses ..
its fitted where the original one was...
but
I haven't quite gotten around to wiring it up as yet... lol

so, I'm using circuit breakers at the moment plus single fuse holders [plug in fuses] ...

everything works... so in No big hurry to wire up the new fuse box... lol

I have 4 or 5 6mm cables to the front from the battery...

and I didn't wire it up the same as VW did originally... lol

those ceramic fuses and the fuse holders may have been OK when the car was new.. [well they were back then]

once they are gone... You have no problems...

LEE IMHO...
