Petronix SVDA
Hey people,
It's time to ditch the stupid 009 on my 1302 1600 and get her running a bit nicer, without the annoying flat spot.
I have been looking at the Petronix SVDA with the flamethrower coil.

http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC-C10-5842
I have had a look on the forums but I just want to see if anyone is happy with this setup. Also i'm guessing it should be an easy installation, I'm
still learning the ropes but I really feel this could be a good little project for me.
A silly question, but this distributor already has the electronic ignition inside correct?
Has anyone got any tips, or wizardry to install these.
Or should I just go for the mexican reproduction and add electronic ignition ?

Many thanks!

I realy don't want to go down this route, would rather do it properly!

BOSCH SVDA SINGLE VACUUM DUAL ADVANCE
Hi Danny
I bought a BOSCH SVDA distributor from aircooled.net in the USA..
You can buy it with points or with electronic ignition
pertronix kit fitted ..
this Distributor makes driving a pleasure....
just like they were back in late 60s etc...
they are excellent... so smoooth... from take off to top speed
I don't know about the chinese ones.??? etc
I read everything I could find on SVDA s until I settled on the BEST ... and it is worth it...
all their distributors are tuned on a machine for Your carburetor
the 009s are great for drag racing etc... and they got a reputation of being used on racing and drag cars etc...
and mistakely have a reputation of being a hot up part for a standard engine...
PLUS... they are cheaper than a BOSCH SVDA distributor...

Be aware that running the wrong coil will destroy the module.
Read the fitting instructions carefully and follow them.
I always measure the coil resistance before fitting it.

You need to be careful what coil You use with the pertronix module....
You need a coil with a minimum of 3 ohms resistance...
bosch blue coils are probably 1.5 ohms from memory...
so its too Low a resistance for the Pertronix module..
close to a short circuit... the hard part is.. finding a coil with 3 ohms resistance.. or more...??
the coil You are using now may be OK...???
its a problem as I haven't seen any coils with the resistance stamped on the coil... as it doesn't matter with points ..
I have read a lot about coils before I bought the SVDA with Pertronix module..
and I think I read about the resistances of some coils..??
can't remember where I read it...
cheers

Hi Phil
I was writing and looking for coils when You answered.. lol
the module has a black and red wire coming from it that goes to the coil...
connect the wrong way round and ZAP....
need another module....
I've talked to lots of people who have done that mistake...
so, I actually took My coil off the engine and checked which one was + positive [power] and which one was -- negative
just to make sure I didn't blow it in an instant... lol
coils do have the + and -- next to the terminals...
and most coils will work the wrong way round with points so its important to check...
cheers

Awesome, thanks for your advice I'll have a good look into it! If people are up for a group purchase let me know and i'll give them a ring!! I'll
start a post!
The coil on aircooled is 3 ohms, I'll get my multimeter out and check my current one, might be worth getting a new one anyway!
