Desperately need help with fuel problem
Alright guys, I have a slight problem with my panel. If I go around a corner to quick, the cabin fills with the smell of fuel. If I fill the tank
right up then driving around will cause the fuel to run from the top of the filler neck, down through the engine bay (Between the battery and spark
plugs) and down off the mudguard which obviously really isn't ideal ....... It's been figured that this is caused by a shitty gasket in the filler
neck.. I'm driving the panel to a music festival on the 29th and have tomorrow to sort out the fuel problem and make up a gasket if necessary. What
I'm wondering is if the problem actually is caused by the gasket and if it's hard to fix or if it's a complete arse of a fix.

Otherwise I'll just have to take a spare jerry can of fuel with me and keep the tank 3/4 full..

It's the fuel filler neck boot. It is just visible if you remove the cap and look in the filler tube. The first 10mm or so is the rubber boot. They
cop a canning from the bowser nozzle. A new one must be fitted. Quite a difficult/awkward job, the filler neck needs to come out to have the new one
fitted iirc. New boot around $30, VVDS should have one, open tomorrow I believe.

It is not actually a gasket that you can see at the filler spout but actually the flange on a rubber elbow that then joins to the filler pipe inside
the back top guard .
Good luck finding one in the next few days , but a fix would be to remove the elbow for 24 hrs and get some sikaflex pro from bunnings and repair the
hole in it ,(APPLY SIKA ON OUTSIDE ONLY OF RUBBER )
And no they don't just usually perish , they are mainly damaged from forcing fuel pump nozzles into them

Oh, early bus, get some fuel tank repair putty/epoxy. Easy fix, don't forget to taper the edges so the nozzle doesn't knock it off (again).
