Tyres

Quick question. I have stock 4 stud rims on a '75 L Bug which are currently fitted with 165/80/R15's, I need new tyres all round. Can these rims accommodate wider tyres safely, 185/80/R15's? What, if any issues will it cause?

Home stretch to roadworthy.........

Cheers, Dean

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

does Your car have 4 inch or 4 1/2 inch rims??
4j x 15 4 1/2j x 15 ?? type 3s had the wider rims..

LEE

PS: original tyre size was 155 x 15 inch not 165... Lee

not sure whether L beetles had the wider wheels in Australia..

If you want wider tyres, you really need wider rims. I use 6" wide rims and 195/70R14" tyres on my bug.

It's only the offset that varies with Lbugs, both standards and supers had 4.5" rims from 72.

I've run 185/65s on my stock 4.5 rims but they are lower profile than stock.
