New here.Have some questions.
Hello everyone,
I have been lurking here for a while now and actually go the idea
for my subaru motor from here. I have a 74 vw bus campmobile that has a 2.5l DOHC motor in it. I have a couple questions that hopefully someone can
help me out with so I can get it running.
I mounted the radiator under the bus(belly mounted) it is a radiator with no CAP.
My question is,
What is the best way to run my cooling system?
Do I need an expansion tank ?
Can I just use and an inline cap and call it a day?
Really looking forward to someone helping me get my cooling system together. Thanks in advance.
I have searched and read too, but I am asking because it is still not very clear to me.

Can I just use and an inline cap and call it a day? MAYBE, SUBJECT TO A WHOLE LOT OF VARIABLES, BUT AN EXPANTION TANK WILL WORK BETTER.

If you have a radiator with no cap then it should have a exit tube for an expansion tank. I used a Hyundai i30 diesel expansion tank. cost around
$70. It has the 5 8th inch inlet, comes with cap and there are two small tubes sticking out of the bottom and top side. I've connected these two
tubes with transperant hose. Even though the tank is suppose to be transperant its more translucent, hard to see the level so this tube allows me to
clearly sight the green fluid level.
Works a treat and improtantly no air in the system. My new Alfa radiator has a similar tube that I attached a brass tap to so it assists in the
bleeding process when refilling the system.
The pic below shows the tank. The fuel hose on the RHS is now a cler view hose showing the water level.
