Might help if you explain what work in your "field" means? What are you able to offer people?

Oh yea
Well I'm an electrical and electronics engineer working as a control systems engineer but as I have over 20 years experience working on cars, DIY and
many household jobs.
On cars I've stripped and rebuild complete engines and many cylinder heads, anything brakes or suspension, non-ecu car electrics, MIG welding, metal
machining (lathe and milling), Panel fabrication.
Wood work I canmake wood frames, make proper mortice and tenon joins.
Household a bit of general plumbing, painting, almost any household maintenance including electrics.
General gardening
Pool system installation.
So as you can see I'm multi talented. Tooling is the only thing that can keep me from doing some jobs.
Um yea, that's me

Not too shabby. I'm self taught but if you look at my resto thread you can see my welding skills to some degree in the latter half of my thread. Few
bits of same thickness scrap to get the welder settings dialled in and good to go. I presume this would be using my welder as you don't have one?
Lap or butt weld? If you've joggled the roof for a lap weld then it makes the alignment easier but not too much difference in welding ease. Um, have
you cut the roof aperture yet? And are you going to lead load the welded area afterwards or just use body filler?

Is your welder gas or gasless? I'm not a fan of gasless as they spatter too much and the weld pool is too hot for thin steel.

Um, I don't have a fixed rate as depends what needs fixing. I'm welding in a golde ragtop for a guy for $200 plus a few small repair patches too in
between the roof cooling for the next lot of welds. This may take me 4 hours or more to allow cooling time to minimise warping.
I'm very fair on pricing so let me know what you have in mind and I can give you a ball park. As your on the gold coast I'd only ask for petrol
money and maybe a tenner for lunch

Hi psimitar - I was looking at replacing a front apron on a 71 bug and also need a few fender bolt-to-body (?) thread sections welded in to the
body..... I am in Clayfield and in no rush, just wondering if you would be interested in this at all? And could provide a price.... cheers, Kyle

Hiya Kyle,
How straightforward is the front apron? Does it need removing? Is the wheel well and side panels around the bumper brackets nice and solid?
For the wing mounting captive nuts. Do you have the genuine VW captive style nut or want normal M8 nuts welding in. Either way, depending on
whereabouts the nut is will dictate whether the old nut can be removed without cutting a rectangle around the nut from the body and then replacing
with new steel with the nut welded to it. Is it just snapped bolts or the thread in them is knackered? Is the wing mounting flange on the body in good
order or has rusted around some of the captive nuts?
Pricing will depend if it's a bit of fettling before welding new pieces in or if the old parts need removing aswell and everything is dressed ready
for welding/fettling?
Once I know the condition of things I can give a more accurate price on the work. If you think pictures would help then my email is
mike.sacher@gmail.com.
Cheers,
Mike
