early and late engines/gearboxs

hi guys

i have a '67 fasty and i want to transfer its gearbox and engine to my '72.
the '72 has no engine/gearbox or mounts.

will they fit across?
looks like the drive shafts are different.
i know the wheels are, but not sure what else.

also, whats with the long wheel stud on each wheel on the late model fasties??

thanks guys :)

Lotta work in that, the 67 is swing axle, the 72 is IRS so you would be better off looking for an IRS gearbox.

Also the 67 engine probably wont have the mounting studs for the hanger bar the later type 3s use.

Where are you located ?
Would be better to get late running gear as it would be cheaper and original than go to all that work

if anyone needs an IRS box, I have a single side cover with very low ks, best box I ever experienced in a vw.

Probable will never need it. PM if anyone is interested.
