I use Bosch, but it does depend what heads you have these days. There are 3 different sizes depending on your heads

German Bosch - BERU or NGK

are usually all great quality ...

Champion are the only ones where I have read bad things like their thread pitch wasn't the same as the VW spark plug thread

LEE

I had two CE lancers over the years and Mitsubishi didn't recommend iridium spark plugs.. LEE

I found the irridium have a much finer tip, which didn't get oiled up as bad and gave a cleaner spark than standard. Replaced every 10k km. Also used the 4 prong bosch with good results.

I did read where Bosch were sourcing they plugs from an asian country, could have been Malaysia?

but Have gone back to German manufacture due to bad reports.

I also have a set of Nippon Denso plugs here, don't know where I got them from.. made in Japan. w16fs-u and patented in USA
same looking as a standard Bosch plug

I see that spark plugs should be replaced every 12,000 miles.

I was reading on a US forum that a Vw owner over there has a standard ignition system and has his plugs gapped to .032"
instead of .024 to ..018"

I use NGK bcpr7es on the 1776 and NGK d8ea on the 1914cc.
Both are high compression engines.

plugs are a funny thing and everyone has there opinion.
iridium are not a robust plug, not happy with too much fuel or oil ,they are best on injected cars or something on the money airfuel wise.
not saying they aren't great plugs, just saying there is so many factors to your choice.
points ,electronic, msd all use different plugs.all i can recommend is find something easy and available.
play around with your gaps and most of the brands will be pretty good.
i've used 2 buck plgs and 40 buck each plugs, when you run it fat like i do it doesn't make a difference.
my fav is 7s in the ngk cheap, easy to get .

Bosch platinum +4 for me. Using them in my daily Mirage. Pulled them out for an inspection after over a year of light driving and they are looking fine. Bought them from the US and they worked out not much more than STD plugs and they last lads longer.

FYI got them from http://www.autohausaz.com/

Your post is in 'Circuit Racing', so I assume that's what the plugs are for.

I agree with westi. ^^^^^^

I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!
