14 inch rims on a Superbeetle?
Hi there,
I'm still a learner about all things VW.
I'm thinking about putting some Dragline wheels on my '72 Superbeetle but I'm not sure about the sizes. The rears are 15x7 so will be fine but the
fronts are 14x5.5.
Will the 14 inch rims fit on my front?
I've had a look behind the wheel and it LOOKs like they'll clear the calipers okay but there is a steel plate (inboard of the disks - dust guard
maybe) which may not fit inside a 14 inch rim. Can this be removed or cut down to fit inside a rim. What is the purpose of this plate?
Thanks for any and all advice.

It's a splash guard, keeps water off the discs when driving in rain.
If you pull the disc off they can be unbolted and removed.
I took mine off when I ran 14" rims and 12 years later they are still sitting in the shed.
Check for clearance with the calipers, alot of 14" and old school rims rub on them.

You are better of running 15" wheels alround as good 14" tyres are getting harder to get and as you found out they are not a direct fit.

Hi
The bottom ball joint often fouls the wheel as well, I actually found some 15 inch mags foul the ball joint.

Thanks for your responses guys.
Guess I'll just have to see if they fit, provided the guy hasn't sold them already.
I'm currently running a 15x6 8 spokes all around but just thought these might give a different look (if they fit).
Cheers.

I have 14x6" rims on the front of my '72 S-Bug. I cut the splash guards down to size with an angle grinder. I just trimmed roughly 10-20mm off the
edge all the way around. The wheels went on perfectly.

All of this depends on the offset, if they clear the ball joint they might rub on the guard, the only way is to trial fit them.
