K&N

My panel air cleaner is looking not the best and i would like to change it before the journey to Valla. I was looking through what was available and i see K&N do a panel filter to suit a kombi (pancake 1800). Any advantages using a K&N beside it not needing replacing for a long time?

Also found today the 2 x rubbers elbows on top of the air cleaner hose were all split and patched with electrical tape. Most of the electrical tape was doing nothing to cover the split and i was wondering if this would cause any problems with the bus (it has been a bit sluggish lately) ?

Bump on the K&N??

I don't think that the K&N filter will give you any performance improvement. A normal paper one will often do a better job of filtering. The oil on gauze-type filters like the K&N is an important part of the filtering system and if they dry out I believe the filtration of fine particles is not as good as a paper filter.

Hi mate, those split boots on the central idle circuit won't change the way it runs, but they will allow unfiltered air into the engine. Re K&N: up to you but for me a stock system is fine for a stock engine, making sure the air box inlet pipes are complete as these supply cool cleaner air than when left off. A German quality air filter lasts many miles for only $22 (off the top of my head). Also, I prefer oiled foam over the K&N as the gause easily gets holes, they both require oiling, stock is clean and easy :)

The pipe your talking about is that the flexi looking stufff that attaches to the right lower hand side of the airbox and runs up to the (not all the way) right hand rear vent?

Yeah i think i'll go stocko aircleaner and save my coin for more bolt on goodies for Bud ;)

The inlet ducting i had to turn around as the end that slips over the box was out of shape and crappy, and not sliding all the way over. I spun it round and the other end was perfectly round so i slipped that over and zipped tied it on for now as i didn't have a big enough hose clamp.

Are those rubber elbows still easy enough to find new?
