country buggy spindles vs barndoor
Can someone please tell me what the difference is between the country buggy spindles and the barn door spindles, i know you can fit the cb ones to
beetles for height but what about the barn door ones.

Unfortunately no. The steering arm on a Split Kombi is forged differently. aside from that the spindles are indeticle to late model Split Kombis.
I have just fitted a set of CB spindles to mine so you can see pictures of them in my build thread on the last page or so.
Here is a picture of one of my CB spindles.
And here is a picture of a Kombi spindle I just found on the net.
You can see the difference in steering arm there.

Smiley, he said Barndoor, not split. Barney's have a similar but different stub assy. They are much easier to fit to a beetle front end and I believe
the same as CB with a difference in link-pin diameter.

Thanks smiley (beasty baja by the way) your thread was what got me
curious as the barnys have the steer arm up top like country buggy, but both are getting hard to find even though there was a set of cb spindles on
evilbay a couple of days ago.
So sounds like the barn ones can be fitted according to Matt

This is really cool!!
I had no idea that the barndoor spindles were the same!
Looks like a pretty good option if you are able to get hold of a pair.
When I had mine rebuilt the bloke that did them made all of the link pin bushes from scratch out of bronze. So if the link pin diameter is different
in the barndoor stubs just have a set of bushes made that fit the stock internal diameter of the spindles, with the hole machined for the correct
internal diameter to suit the stock Beetle link pins.

probably the same reason i had mine made? You're sure of a better quality product.
choice of know materials, instead of china something.
as well as know clearances to suit your spindles instead of a nominal size.

Yes. For a number of the above listed reasons.
But mostly because he makes all of the bushes to suit the spindles.
And bronze is better than brass which is what comes in most kits.

Well the Link pin bushes would at least be different from Barndoor to CB cause of the different diameter link pins.
We used Split Kombi seals for mine when they were being rebuilt. And I also used balljoint Kombi locking nuts to hold the bearings on the stub axles
cause they are the same thread.

You could try the T3 stake nuts on the spindles as they are the same thread as the bay window spindles.
RH thread only though.

I agree completely with you. Which is why I got another pair of nuts and only ground them down the bare minimum required. The first pair one I did I
went a little overboard 
If you didn't think I did the job properly or safely why didn't you just post in my build thread? I'm happy to except advice, especially if it is a
safety concern.

Just read an old knowing australias volkswagens book and it states that the cb used kombi trailing arms, which raises another question whether they
fit the beetle tubes or they used different bearings in the tube

They don't.
Country Buggies used a stock Beetle front end aside from the spindles. And they ran a steering box from the Type 3.
Have read of this site about halfway down the page under the heading 'Component Sharing'.

great little write up there, where they mention cb components it says transporter trailing arms... so they must fit the beetle front tubes
