Auto vs manual ET difference

I know there's heaps of stuff on the 003 and 010 elsewhere, but I thought I'd ask here as it's possibly more relevant.

Plugging the usual 6500rpm 2L or so motor through Desktop Drag and Quarter programs, I keep getting an ET difference of nearly 6 tenths. I know with the usual "dinosaur" V8s the difference is closer to 3 tenths using a streetable hi-stall around 3000, so I find the extra difference with a dak-dak intriguing.

I'm putting it down to the super-high gearing on the VW manuals, the 3.78:1 1st in particular. I tried loading in different hi-stall figures to get it close, but 4500rpm stall converter rules out the street option.

Has anyone any real-world experience (calling Mr. 20BKombi.......) with going direct from a manual to a 3000stall auto and the ET difference it ran down the track?

I much prefer auto's pottering about, each to their own I guess, and already have a 4.37/003 ready for rebuild for the "project" streeter, but losing 2/3 second is a bit harsh. Any test results appreciated.
