55 oval windscreen
Hi guys,
I had the screen on my 55 canned for rwc a few months back due to scratches and am having trouble tracking down a new one. Auto glass stockists I have
contacted only carry late 57 onwards. I took it to a mob near me who cut a new laminated one but the rubber I purchased from WW doesn't quite fit as
the glass is slightly thicker than the original. They are trying to track down a thinner laminated glass to cut one from but no luck to date. Any one
replaced theirs recently?
Cheers,
John

I had a cut laminated one fitted, they are a bit thicker but it still fitted the rubber ok,
When the glass guy cuts it, it needs to be cut smaller than the original toughened screen or it will crack when being fitted.

Yes that is right..
the laminated screens are thicker and must be cut slightly shorter.. all way round... Once they get the size correct....
get a spare made up too...
getting it Exactly right is the hard part...
Vintage Vee dub in Sydney should have them..
I know Rose got her windscreen there...
there are probably a lot of OLD original used windscreens about .. but its safety glass..
only good if You don't wear a seat belt... YIKES
[I went thru one many years ago] was picking bits of glass out of My head for years [true]
