undesealing floorpans yes/no?
Is undesealing floorpans a good idea or not?
I am currently stripping my Ghia pans before I repair them and am wondering what are the benefits of underseal;
1)corrosion protection, (yeah it seems to do that well)
2)sound dedening?
3)heat insulation?
4)Hiding my messed up pans?

i personally believe painting 2pack paint is the best and keeping an eye on things like mud build ups
underseals can work in trapping pockets of moisture when the seal is compromised .
the reason i say this is i have worked on a lot of old german cars that have substantial
rot created by sealing compounds failure . as far as sound deadening muffling noise for the inside with mats
is an affective solution . spending a bit
more time detailing the dents and imperfections is a far more satisfactory alternative . in the future maintenance
will be much easier painting an area damaged , not having to remove these thick coatings . i hope this makes sense to you

I think it would pAy to use POR 15 on Your pan both sides...
its hard as a rock and won't come off if painted correctly..
and You can do it yourself... Many VW owners have done that..
I just paint everything with killrust fish oil..
it creeps into holes and crevices everywhere..
any that drips out just collect it and re use it.. great in doors too..

Yeah I see your point, only downside is I will have to really straighten these pans up. They are welded, dented and have lots of holes drilled in em.
Good thing is they arent too rusty.
Should be good practice for me before I start welding the body.
Tonight I found that the heat gun & scraper works well, then meths to dissolve the leftovers away. Pretty messy tho I am now very well
undersealed!
