Pushrod Tube Selection


I have been plagued for years with leaking pushrod tubes (stock with the white seals)
I am building a mild 1776 and would like to get it the best I can. Question is, should I buy new stock tubes or aftermarket spring loaded jobs. If aftermarket, which ones are best?

I have a set of scat spring loaded push rod tube's, they seal in the block but can have a tendency to leak on the cylinder heads, it could be a issue with my head, thay are a set of street eliminator, the sealing surface for the is not very deep, i have replaced these with a set of jaycee push rod tubes from pierside parts in the states, http://www.piersideparts.net/JC1029.html  much better quality than the scat tube's.

In my experience what ever you use, use the genuine VW seals. I have the spring loaded tubes on both my engines and I made the mistake if using the supplied seals on one if the sets and they leak just enough to be annoying. The genuine seals don't leak a drop.

1: How clean are the wedge shaped holes as if there all lumpy with crap and old sealer etc , how do you expect a smooth seal to seal
2: Don't use the shitty red seals
3: Use only a smear of HTB grease to seal them as they constantly move due to the growing and shrinking of the motor .
4: Make sure the tubes are pre streched prior to fitting
With all the above done i have never had a pushrod tube leak yet and thats just using stock tubes from micks etc




Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

Thanks for the advice guys however some of you are making assumptions. White German seals. Pre stretched tubes. Clean case and heads. The only thing I havn't tried is the grease.
Will have a look at the JayCee ones

stock tubes and who did you get the seals off

Before you tighten the heads do u align the tubes so they are sitting nice look down from the head side you can twiddle the tube with a socket so it sits full face on the seals in each tube in each head

never had any probleblems with them only old engines some ones else has done or its done heaps of miles
