cable operated gear levers

I am looking at a subi conversion for my T3. Going into an H6. My T3 is an auto at present and I may have to change to manual as Reveresed Dubi Gears have not been able to reverse an auto yet. SO.
1. could i install a cable operated gear shift on the seatbox, above or around the handbrake. (or cut in and weld in one from a T2)
or
2. is it easy to install a clutch pedal
or
3. stick with the auto when available
All advice gratefully received.
