Carport mods
AVD is too quiet, so just having a rant at myself here... I sold my kombi about 8 years ago, since then I have moved into my own place with a nice
carport beside the house. I decided I missed my kombi so I went out and got myself a new project. This is all well and good, but now i've gotten it
home the angle of my driveway is too steep to fit it under the carport. 
Looks like i'll have some carport modifications before kombi modifications 
That'll teach me.

Good idea jeff, builders to the rescue, maybe a couple of jacks welded to the posts so the roof can be lifted then lowered back down to stop theft of
the aforesaid bus.

a cheaper option is to flatten the tyres, drive it under the carport then pump em up again
reverse procedure when u want to go for a cruise

Got a few ideas... will probably just move the whole carport back plus make it a bit bigger in the process, the more free space the better... also
thought of chopping the roof and making it a convertable

Have you measured the height of the Kombi?..We have just extended our carport and are looking to buy a lowlight kombi but from what I read around the
place the average standard height kombi is 2040mm and our carport has 2030mm clearance..lol. So we may need to lower ours..

No I havent measured the kombi... cant let a little thing like that stand in the way of a good project lol... At least with yours its only 10mm
difference... Lowered buses can look pretty sick, so its good motivation haha.

You just need some smaller wheels fitted to fit under the carport... lol
You can buy them for caravans.. they just have about 25mm of solid rubber .. not normal wheels and very expensive... lol
If You deflated the tyres, drove it in then pumped up the tyres... if it was stolen.. just look for a kombi with a carport attached.... lol just
joking...
the angle of the driveway into the carport makes a BIG difference too... [at the top]
extend the carport UPWARDS.. not a big job..

What is the carport construction ???
Brick,wood or steel coloumns /posts ???

Theres a few options depending on construcction and materials used
Ive just done a huge 19 M x 12 M toy room,minimun height at lowest point is 2.4 m

19mx12m wont fit! lol wish it could though... I've decided to pull the old one down, extend the slab and put up a new carport...
Still not sure if i'll do the concrete myself, has anybody used a concrete taxi before?
Then it'll just be a wooden frame with a tin roof. Gotta find a second hand roller door... or 2... then i can have a door to the back yard as well
as the front...
This will be an 'after xmas' job now though haha... too much going on this time of year.

Check out some auction houses around i scored 200 mm C purlins, factory 2nds for $4 a metre
Mite have a scratch or two,or holes punched in the wrong spot from one end, throw that in the ground anyway
Best bet before doin anything go see the overeducated desk jockies at the council, anything over 10 sq ft, has to be council approved
Yep,10 sq ft, a garden shed that what 10 sq ft is .....
Im doin a 12 M x 6 m for a mate,only a flat slightly tapered roof profile,not pitched,shoot me a PM if ya want the specs
2 people, coupla days should be done

You go putting "C" purlins directly into the ground (assume) you mean onto a concrete footing) and you are looking at a failed column / post within
a few years, very bad idea, corrosion will have them rooted real quick

My mum spoke to our local member as well... He goes you can put it right up against the fence as long as the neighbour doesn't complain ... I think i'm pretty right to do whatever here really, the
neighbours are drugs dealers I think, so they will never complain haha.

One day I hope to perform a mod to our carport to accomodate my VW. It involves removing a lot of materials from the inside of the garage

The local council will have structural guidelines if there are wind issues or weather issues
A flat roof say will need alot more structure to hold the weight of snow morso than a pitched roof
Some countries O/S have seriously pitched roofs to get the undue excess weather weight of quickly
Some council laws , can have sheds build upto and including boundry lines, some prefer a minimum of a set distance
Wood is easy to work with for some, but steel, grinders, nibblers , tex screws, purlin bolts are fun too and sometimes alot stronger than wood
200 MM C purlin can span 6 M unsupprted,wont twist, rot,be eaten by borers

I thought of this... but just decided if I was going to spend time and money I may as well make it how I want it... which is bigger lol.
As for the council... Not overly worried, if they ever came I would take the walls down and say its a gazebo, should be alright haha.
