Sorry if this is an annoying question - I just don't know much

ps: Awesome times Wayne. Hope everything is still happy with the car.

Tell me Chris, how is that anymore than a question?
Which by the way Wayne answered.

The way i read it, Wayne has reacted and responded to every single sencible question and comment.

I can't see anything wrong with matts question, it was simply asking a question and he recieved a reply to his question.

Jack Jones is a regular pain in the arse and i don't know why anyone takes what he says serriously, just go back and read his previous posts and you wil see for your self.

Amazar, just chill dude.
You are right in alot of what you have said and there has been a few ding bats on this thread. just ignore them. It looks like wayne has.

Ohh and congrats on getting the car up and going wayne. Good times for a first outing.

Hats off to you Wayne. From nasty old body shell to the fastest road registered bug in under six months. Sadly, I couldn't be there to see it. Hope you'll be coming up to WSID more often. Can't wait to see you waste some v8s in the flesh.

To everyone else, whether you agree with him or not, Wayne has yet again set the benchmark. First for show cars (and I'm not saying I love the mango) and now where the rubber hits the road. So cough up boys, if you wanna complain, do better.

Well done Wayne, Not only is it good to see another oval back on the roads but one that does mid 11's on it first outing. CONGRATS!!!
Do you think it will be good for tens? If it does drop, do you have to run chute etc.
What month 54 is it? Is it early cause your plates say 53?

It didn't surprise me that Wayne walked away with the win. He's a VW engine builder who knows the ins and outs from mild daily to full on racer.

Wayne built my 2 litre in the Bay. Couldn't have asked for better service and after sales assistance.

Congratulations on the win Wayne.

Top effort Wayne.

Good to see another well presented Oval not only brought back to life but kicking butt.

I can't believe how quick it came together. I'm lucky to change my oil in that time.

THE DYNO-TUNE

the oval was supposed to be dynoed on the monday before the drags , it was ready . Kevin @ SOUTH COAST ROTARY called early and asked if we could leave it until wednesday as he had an engine to build that day . That was OK by me . Tuesday morning he put another customers car on his dyno , only to find that a roller brake coil has failed and shorted out . Wednesday Kevin orders the new coil and it arrives on thursday . The coil is fitted , only to find that it still wont work as it shorted out the control board that operates the coils . Thursday 4.45 pm I am notified that the dyno will not be working . NOW I PANIC !! after 2 and a half months of busting my butt to get the oval finished , I could see it all ending before getting to the nationals drags . At 4.50 pm Kevin makes a call to SOUTH COAST 4WD @ north wollongong and secures the dyno for the friday morning . On the friday before the drags the oval is dynoed and a couple problems are uncovered . First , strapping the oval down becomes a major headache on the left side due to the extensive exhaust plumbing . One strap is melted and broken and the heat proof fire blanket is burned from the exhaust temperatures . second , we are not able to run the 20-22lb boost that I want to run as the injectors will only flow enough fuel to 14lb boost . So to play it safe for the first meeting out I run a maximum of 14lb boost . At 14lb boost the oval showed figures on the dyno of 207bhp on premium ULP, far below what was expected !! however it performed very well at the drags and has shown me the great potential it has to achieve the 10.9 @ 130mph , which I want from it .

no I was not very happy about reverse gear not working , especially when I have just rebuilt the box and didn't fit the reverse gear properly !! to explain..........when using the early style reverse selector fork , I always (in my race boxes) fit the reverse gear in back to front so that it goes into mesh further . this makes the gear less likely to fail . it is harder to select as it doesn't have leading edge on the teeth but I am used to that . unfortunately the night that I stayed back and built the trans. I have fitted it in the correct direction ( not thinking ) and it now doesn't go into mesh correctly . with the leading edge on both the gear and the slider it wants to slide straight out . I STUFFED UP !!!

this engine had already been run in my sports sedan , so it didn't need running in . If it hadn't been used previosly ,then a couple of easy passes is good for the engine . after that , drive it like you stole it !!

not sure on the body life when being treated like this , but will keep a close look out around the body and body-mounts for signs of fatigue . If any problems are detected will keep you posted .

Hello Wayne, congrats on the great results. If you try the formulas published in VWMA on HP for weight I dont think you should be dissapointed. (issue #5 I think) The formula calculates engine HP, and yours are excelent for pump fuel and low boost...what does the car weigh with you on board?
Again, good work! Regards Dave Butler.

Wayne, I like to install the gear in the correct direction, but I counter bore it to allow correct engagement depth.
Yes, it is hard material, but normal tungsten tips work ok in the lathe if you go slow.
Hope thi is of some help.

after breaking a strap and nearly leaping out of the rollers the oval is strapped down again and front wheel chocks added . I would like to thank the guys at SOUTH COAST 4WD for letting us use their dyno at such short notice . I would also like to thank Kevin @ SOUTH COAST ROTARY for leaving his very busy workshop and assisting me in setting up the microtec fuel injection on the oval .( that is Kevin in the passenger side of the oval busy with the laptop ) WITHOUT THE HELP OF THESE GUYS , WE WOULDN'T HAVE MADE IT TO THE DRAGS !!
