I am very happy now- it runs and had no breakages, oil leaks or internal rattles. I ran it for about 40 minutes today and the only noise is the tappets
when it gets hot. I checked hot clearance and it's around .008" - so all is good. I have booked it for dyno time- but can't get in until 8th April,
so will have time to finish off the rear body panels and paint.

Another update of this (can't believe how long it's taking) project.Finished the RH side ute body at last and made some of the top panels from some
scrap ally. I can use these panels as templates when I redo them in good material.Only a week to go until it's first dyno run-so looking forward to
getting that over with. And I did something last week end I never thought would happen to me-I bought my first 12 volt Beetle. The wife wants it for a
fun car to run around town with. She should be sick of it fairly quickly-so I can see another project car in the future.Have got something in mind that
is way outside the norm.

The car is looking very cool!
Will you be running it in more before the dyno?
What are the plans for the dyno, fuel, rpm, manifold pressure?
Can't wait to see the out come and then some track time!!

Aaron,I have run the engine now for about 1 hour to bed the rings and cam-that should be good for some dyno runs. The dyno will tell us where to set
the fuel and spark table and where it gets it max HP and torque. It runs way too fat on fuel at the moment up to 3K RPM,but that could change once I
get some boost into it.I have a 9LB spring in it at the moment,so will run with that to get a feel for the car and how to get the trans to hook up
with the standard convertor.

Had the Dyno tune done today - very pleased with the results. It blew out a pushrods tube seal- they are new and they all look like they are going tp
split. They are the normal white ones. Is there something better available? The engine is running 100 psi oil pressure when it's hot at full revs. Is
this too much? It keeps popping the O ring on the Geers ally filter.

I only use the Elring ones that normally come in the gasket kits of the same brand.
If the seal has popped out it may have too much tension on the adjustable tube,
or your pushrods were flexing and doing the old rubadubdub.
100psi hot means that the filter is seeing a whole lot more than that! Especially cold!
Your pressure relief valve should be 70 or 75psi from Autocraft.
make sure it is plumbed in the correct orientation!
If all that is good, your oil viscosity is likely too high.

Yeah, good post DB, the Elring seals are silicone (slippery) not rubber in the other kit's or supplied with the tubes, deffo too much oil pressure
for me. I'm thinking oil viscosity, what are you running?

Yes- same with me- always learning new stuff from Dave. You set me straight on the relief valve plumbing when I first bought the engine. I am sure the
seal just turned to shit and was pushed out by the pushrod tube. I will try and get some Elring ones. I am using a 20/50 oil from Hitec-it's
compatible with Methanol.

50 weight seems too thick for a new engine. Possibly a big pump too ??

.
check your seals for cuts as where they sit in the heads may have a shape ege on seal seat.
some times high pressure means close bearing clearance?
jaycee and fast fab in the USA sell athingy that lets oil return o sump.
Check out our new oil control system! We have eliminated the large brass bypass valve and machined it internally into our 6061 billet aluminum oil
manifold housing. The systems are all calibrated to 80psi and includes a high flow relief piston, double ground precision spring and complemented
with the black anodized #8 an fittings. The housing comes in blue, black or red anodized color for a long lasting professional finish!

T54- I am using Paul Tyler from LMG Performance at Warnertown just near Pt Pirie. He's good with all brands of ECU's. Ian,where can I find pics of
your oil system?I will ring Hitech and see if they do a lower vis' oil, yet still good with Methanol. I checked outthe pushrod tube seals- they are
all perished and look like shit- these cam with the new tubes when I bought them. Will try to find some good ones tomorrow.

Were the seals the hard bright white seals or the soft cream coloured ones?.... Have always used ther softer ones in the past when I fitted a set of
Jaycee tubes, but recently on a mates car I fitted a set that came with the harder seals... Was a litted sceptical, but they seamed to work ok.

From memory they were hard white seals- but are now like jelly and swollen up. I bought the tubes from CB's but don't remember what brand they were.

Gary, it may be an idea to soak any seals that you are thinking of using in that Hitech oil for a few days first. It may be 'livening them up'?
