bulletbug, see my gearbox when its finished, its based on an 091, the other option is porsche 915 / G50... alternatively, use a bug box, treat it nicely or get an exceptionally well built bug box & be sympathetic to it, my option is for flogging to death & it should be more than adequate :D

3days joel, get it done so i can go for a ride, pretty please? & dont even think about mentioning the almost dead 1300 idea:no:

Hi Joel

Is that STI red on the manifold? Is that the starter from Stockers?

A benefit that I've never mentioned when I had my WBX powered 1302, heated windscreen washer fluid, yep run your washer fluid hose around the radiator hose and you will have heated washer fluid, gets rid of bugs etc much better than cold water, I know this because sometimes I wash up at home:lol:, cant move any gunk of the washing up if you use cold water.

Preety sure i dislike timimng belts, my girlfriends mum drives a camry and its timing belt is loose. It has been rubbing the inside of its cover for ages. I apparenly am the man for the job cause i work on my dub. So far ive got half the cover off and now ive gotta take the wheel and heaps of other shit off jus to get at the second cover, and i dont even know if it needs a new belt or tensioner. Worst bit is she needs it nearly everyday. So your lucky you can take yours out to do it. They dont make removeable fornt ends for camrys. :)

http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=78092&page=3

thats my thread, 091 is from mid 70s 2L kombi's, aka a 2L box, has 6 ribs on it, instead of 3-5 on the other kombi boxes, plenty of info on each of them on thesamba, keep in mind they arent that cheap either, expect to pay $300-500AUD for the basic box from what ive seen in the last year or so, then add the parts to make it fit with the beetle nose cone, new gears for stronger & better ratios), diff - im told by a friend in the UK that the syncro diff is up to the task if you can source one, seems they are a cheap solution in that part of the world.

Crap i gotta go to work, ill explain more later :tu:

none of the above
if you are in NSW I would check with the RTA and a engineer bfore doing anything as the rules are starting to change on mod cars.
I know a bloke who spent 50k on a Kit car only to find out it didnt meet the RTA rules:no::no:

Ian, he's in malaysia

probably abit overkill with the brakes, but you can never have to much stopping power
and gearbox depends how you drive

Ian has a stock one with a turbo EJ20 but he drives like a grandma

RTA I'd the road traffic authority. There are laws in aus (and they are different in all states) controlling what you can and can't do to modify registered cars.

What kills gear boxes? Power. These gearboxes were not designed to have heapsss of power to go through them, hence why Dave (stidub) is upgrading. And with an ej20 turbo, the last thing you wannt to happen is to have to pull the engine and gearbox out.

Priorities in the correct order?? Probably not. Unless and a
amazing pro is doing all the custom work (exhaust/ intake piping ect) leave body work till last.

Nice work Joel,

Just to comment on the box. most use single side plate boxes with a super diff...and welded 3rd and 4th gears.

I am pretty sure both Jak and Paul spun 3rd prior to gettin the gears welded.

I had the welded gears from the start, although i blew up 2nd gear twice......

I now have albins internals with really tall first (3.0), tall 2nd (2.0) stock ratio 3rd and taller 4th(.82)

Dave butler did mine and I have been taking heaps of people for "hard" runs and the box has not missed a beat.

Without a turbo a stock single side plate will last along time ....if you are not stupid with it all the time..

You win some, you lose some.....

well its a rainy, dark and gloomy day so i figured perfect to finally get those heads off and suss out my engine
shoulda known better as my mood would soon match.... cos what i found aint pretty

confusious say dont always trust low mileage engines.
because its so long between services this can happen:

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p174/Buggin_74/Subaru%20conversion/subi_conv_72.jpg

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p174/Buggin_74/Subaru%20conversion/subi_conv_71.jpg

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p174/Buggin_74/Subaru%20conversion/subi_conv_76.jpg

lack of schedueled coolant changes has allowed severe electrolosis to nom nom the heads and engine block

and looking how close its got to the combustion chambers and cylinder liners i dont know how it was possible that it ran as well as it did

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p174/Buggin_74/Subaru%20conversion/subi_conv_70.jpg

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p174/Buggin_74/Subaru%20conversion/subi_conv_74.jpg

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p174/Buggin_74/Subaru%20conversion/subi_conv_73.jpg

in all i got 387kms on it and it really impressed me even being like this with how it ran, so i realise that a fresher engine will be even better again

be that as it may though, at the moment im just really over all this shit and the haha told you so's so for now its going back to vw power
no fun but i got rego coming up shortly and its only done 600kms since last years pinky, so as you can imagine i just really want my bug back on the road wont be for too long though
once i regain motivation ill track down another engine or as a last resort theres a WRX front cut sitting here that can go in it but i really would prefer not go thro all the bullshit involved

a good mate of mine who's a car dealer has offered to pick me up a good liberty from the auctions when hes back fromt he US so if nothing turns up in the mean time thats proabbly the way ill go
