So long since I've updated PBB! So long since I've actually done anything to her though... :P

Anyway, I had major probs with my old stereo, sent it back to Kenwood 3 times and finally got an answer to my non-musicness: water had got onto the motherboard and screwed it big time. I haven't had music in my car for I don't know how many months, probably close to a year :sniffle: but today I finally have tunes! I made a cd cover so if any yukky water decides to get inside the bonnet it will run off down the back and not get onto the motherboard of this one. I didn't even have to rewire it all as this unit uses the same connections as the old one. YAY!

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y243/lil_purrrple/StereoCover.jpg
Might not look too pretty but it's waterproof and should do the job! ;)

:bounce

Anyway, wouldn't want to disappoint anyone by not putting more chrome bits on....

1st is a chrome horn ring... so nice! I didn't believe this was second hand, the button is like new!

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y243/lil_purrrple/ChromeHornRing.jpg

2nd is a sweet little flat four mirror. Now my breezies don't interfere with vision... :P

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y243/lil_purrrple/FlatFourBreeziesShades.jpg

Soooo shineyyyy.... and no eyelids! :o

Hi Laura,
You car is still looking great, even after a year...:P:P:P

How did water get into Your stereo ??

I have collected a few of those steering wheel centres but chromed horn rings are getting rare...
but then I used a late model Beetle/type 3 steering wheel
as I've always liked them..

What do the 1/4 window chromed things do??

I have new mirrors both sides...
fitting the LH Side one was a pain though...

I have just fitted a two piece bonnet bib to My beetle...
was difficult to fit the first time...
but gives a beetle a different look....

cheers

Lee Noonan

Hiya Lee!

Glad you still like my PBB. :P

I'm still not 100% sure where the water got into my stereo. My guess is that the black air vent/water catch-thing under the bonnet vent was the culprit. A while ago Eden and I pulled it off and apart and the 30+ year old foam had deteriorated and disintegrated, blocking the drainage holes... so water was sitting in there and sloshing around. some of it must have gotten into the stereo's motherboard. Bye bye $400! :(

So glad to see someone so into their car. Especially a VW! It certainly does pay off the attention you are giving it. Well done on such a cute bug. Hey don't you also have a early fastback? Was gonig thru members' rides a couple of months ago. How's it going?

Laura,

Looking good.

Do the breezies actually do anything (like cut down the wind noise when the 1/4 window is open) or are they just more of a cool looking accessory??

Cheers
Brendan

Hey Brendan!

Yep, I've found the breezies do actually serve a purpose (though I did want them 'cos I think they look cool :P). They let air in without it blasting in and without the wind noise too. I love 'em!

Oh, PBB now has her little eyelids back on. Just wasn't the same without them... :starhit:

yup, still looking good Laws... ...so is THAT what breezies do.. I wondered about thier function..

I'd say the water entered thru the vent in your bonnet. That's the usual culprit... ouch lesson learned there.
When's the next dandy run eh?

[size=4]Hi Laura,
Good to see You are still enjoying Your PBB..
and the type 3 fastback....
they will be collectors items soon... maybe already...

bad luck with the air box blocking up...
I have a spare and checked them both out... and put a new hose that actually goes thru the chassis under the car, so all the water ends up under the car and not onto the front of the chassis...
the air box and all the air hoses make it difficult to get at the speedo now,,, plus all the wires etc...
My Speedo works but the kms don't go round...
so i want to pull it apart.... once i get it out of the dash...
and see whats wrong... maybe a gear from a MPH speedo will fix it....

I knew that the 1/4 window breezies would do something but never knew what....
I've still never seen them for sale anywhere...

Do You drive your Bug every day???? Laura..

Lee

Hey Laura!! PBB is looking great!
I'm about to order some eyelids for the TinkerBeetle finally, a pair of chrome window winders...and a centre console! I'll be checking out your console covering pics and might cover it in something funky and purple ;)
I'm thinking a dub cruise must be on the cards soon too ;)

Thanks for that Laura, I might have to look out for a pair for my beetle.

Check all the seals & stuff where the windscreen wiper shafts pass through the bodywork. These could be letting water in which will run down the mechanisms and drip onto the radion/cd player in the dash.
Pretty sure thats how water got into my CD player & trashed it.

Cheers
Brendan

Thanx for the sweet comments! :kiss

Yes, PBB is driven EVERY day... until Retro is happening then they'll take it in turns. I doubt it if I could only drive PBB on weekends, I love her too much and she runs awesome at the moment. Not too slow either! ;)

The breezies are great... am so glad I got them as I know they're hard to come by.

And my stereo is all good now. Am pretty sure it was the airbox-thing that was the culprit when it was blocked up with 35 year old foam and the water had nowhere to go. Anyway, I covered my new stereo in waterproof stuff so it's all good. :D

Am still in need of a job so I can spend some $$ on my two babies now.... :sandrine
