The thing is.... It was for me initially... This car ran very well for the first 8 months.... I'm sure the issue is something simple and stupid.... Back to the drawing board....

Next up..... Air cleaner options...

I've been running "Finer Filter" socks on my DCOE for a while now and I have noticed that engine runs very rich with them on....

http://www.uniflow.com.au/contents/media/RALLY%20PODS.jpg

Not too bad if they are clean, but they get grotty very quickly.... Looking for other options.... I have run the conventional 'K&N' style filters on my NA engines for years, but there isn't a lot of room in under the lit with the DCOE.... So I'm looking at other options....

Found these.... Which look cool, but I'm unsure how effective they would be....

http://www.carburetion.com/weber/Stacks.asp#Stack%20Screens

Does anyone know if they actually have a filter element of any kind in there, or is it just a mesh screen?

No filter, and extremely restrictive.
Probably not as restrictive as your dirty finerfilters though

^^^ Yep, if there was any filter element in there, it would have next to no surface area and would be sooooo restrictive. Without an element they also look restrictive but would keep out large rocks and birds :lol:.

Yeah.... The needle and seat decided that 5psi was too much to handle.... Figured I needed an FPR that could handle the efi pressures that are in the POS' future, and I needed something to make it happen now.... Apparently this FPR can handle high pressure/high volume pumps and carby/efi setups.... Killed two birds with one stone so to speak.

"A dual purpose, universal regulator for EFI or Carbureted and street or strip applications. Base pressure adjustable from 3 to 20 PSI with standard spring, (installed) or from 20 to 60 PSI with high pressure spring (included). Offers the full flow and rock steady fuel pressure that only a dynamic, Aeromotive bypass regulator provides. • Capable of regulating any fuel pump between 100 and 250 GPH. • Fuel pressure rises on a 1:1 ratio when referencing boost. • All ports are 3/8” NPT, with one inlet and three outlets on the main body and one return port on the bottom. • Bypass design provides the ultimate, dynamic fuel pressure control."

Run the Bills b racing fillers on my 2276 with IDA's, when we dynoed the engine they absolutley no difference to the HP. and the meshing on them is very fine.

Finally gave up on the FPR from the US ever arriving.... The seller is attempting to get a refund sorted for me via the postal insurance.... I don't hold out much hope....

So I went down to my local V8 performance shop and ordered the 13301 FPR..... It took 2 days to arrive and only cost me 40 bux more than the US one..... But since I'm still out of pocket on the US one, I'm in the hole on this project in a major way.....

Racing aint cheap!

So here it is.....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_1245.jpg

Started fitting it up this arvo.... Just need to finish off the mount for it and she's good to go.... Will fire it up tomorrow.

Also.... A mate directed me to these pics from the last attempt at racing.... The car looked good I guess and apparently launched pretty hard.... But as you all know, it didn't go....

My bro's BD looked pretty good too and managed to get high 17's I think!!!

Just finished fabing and fitting the FPR.... Turned the key, checked for pressure and leaks.... No leaks spotted and pressure turned down to 2.5psi with ease..... Then fired up the beast..... She goes!..... Pressure is rock solid, AFR's are a little erratic, jetting needs some work.... Still waiting on some more weber gear to arrive from Queensland.... Need to organise a permit to drive for next weekend, then its time for a little road tuning.... Only option I have really.... No one here in Perth knows anything about dyno tuning carb'ed engines let alone turbo'd VW's!

Did some more work on the ignition last night.... Noticed the sensor and timing wheel relationship didn't look right.... It was out of whack for some reason.... Also made a couple of minor changes.... moved the wheel further away from the BERG pulley, and spaced out the sensor accordingly.... Also re-routed the sensor wiring away from the alt base and the other ignition leads.... Right away the car started better and idled nicely at 1000rpm... Hasn't managed that in 18months of fiddling!!!!!

So I took the car to the track today.... The Nostalgia drags were on and I wasn't gonna miss this year!

The car started real nice this morning before I loaded it on the trailer... Real sweet and crisp.... Idled nicely.... Just like last night....

Got it to the track and it started to run poorly again.... Draw-through turbo engines don't like idling much.... They tend to kill spark plugs... Changed out the plugs as I felt this was the problem.... Was correct in this thinking.... Right on start up the car ran very nicely.... Took it for a blat....

Got held up at the staging as a car from the previous run had a failure..... The POS began run rough from idling too long..... Gave it a lung full... Cleaned it out.... Staged against a mate in a IDA fed 2276 Oval.... Tore out of the gate (easy 4000rpm launch).... Had him for the first 100 or so, then my car began to stall at higher rpm, just as boost began to rise.... Then my mate flew past me and posted an awesome 13.5.... Me.... 15.9.

So I had a theory.... I reckon the POS is running out of fuel as boost builds.... Noticed the O2 gauge reading very lean at the moment of stalling.... I figured that if I ran a larger main, the car should stall sooner.... Back in the pit I fit a full step larger main to test my theory.... It worked... The car ran nicely once more (better even!) out of the gate, but broke down earlier.... I reckon the float bowl is being sucked dry by the turbo.... I need to run a boost referenced FPR to sort this issue (my Aeromotive FPR has this facility built in).... I reckon that's the fix for this issue.... Everything else went very well.... My shakedown passes are finally telling me I'm heading in the right direction.... Car launches well, goes straight.

So that's next then?.... Setup the O2 to data log with my ignition, setup the FPR to boost reference, then its back to the track.
