what oil did you put in new steering box.
you may just have to adjust the top screw .

Well, that was the most intersting and worthwhile build thread i have ever read to put it simply.

The car is amazing, the paint looks spectacular and now after 4 years of ups and downs, you can look back it and stand by it and say its your handcrafted machine. Cost to a degree can't outweigh the feeling of doing something yourself.

Well done Kev, an inspiraton to myself and many others.

Camo have you adjusted the box in place? hard right, quater turn and check lock to lock... if more needed, hard left quater turn and check lock to lock. Should be able to find tight but smooth opperation. do not over tighten. Only small adjustments.

Car looks amazing great Aussie work, fantastic.

Can i ask what MC you are using? i have the same kit.

Cheers

Thank you, thank you very much. I had never thought about someone enjoying the reading as you have put it. Makes the past four years feel even more worth while.

And thanks to everyone for your favorable comments. As I have said, there were still a few small issues which are mainly taken care of now. But I have a funny feeling after all this, I am going to have to pull the motor out again :sniffle:

I will do some more investigating, but I think it is a rear main oil leak. The thing is, I'm not sure if it due to excess crank case pressure (blow-by) which surprises me with all the breathers I fitted to the engine. If it has to come out, so be it. At least when I sort that out I know it will all be good to just jump in and drive.

Thanks again, Kev.

Thanks everyone, and yes very good to get the plates on and finally drive a VW for the first time every on the road :D. Still a few small teething issues to attend to. Need to get wheel alignment and see if I can get some negative camber put into the k/p front end (any suggestions), need to fine tune the engine as there is a little burbling through the exhaust (like when you normally back off) even when just cruising, small oil leak (as they say, it is a vw) and I am surprised about the free play in the steering box considering it was new (I think).

But I guess when a car as been totally stripped down and then put back together over 4 years there will always be a few things to sort out.

Now, just to find the time to drive it

Cheers, Kev

P.S. Photos came out good Paul, considering light was fading :tu:

P.P.S. Will have to change my avatar photo now.

ONE HAPPY VW BUILDER.... :lol::lol:

Great looking car Kev...

You can adjust the steering box with the wheels straight ahead using the screw on the top to take play out of it..

I have always used the top screw but I have read where the Large plug underneath should be used..??

the later boxes were all filled with grease...

Very high standard - Quality work.

WOW... Now THAT is magazine "Feature" worthy. I will be keeping an eye on the newsagent stands, its not IF but WHEN it appears featured in a VW mag.

Such a credit to you and your perseverance over the 4 years.
