Actually it is Aaron.....I moved it from the floor back to the bench so it's physically closer to the car now...

On a serious note things are moving. Went to see DB last weekend and picked up the barrels and push rods which he shortened about 7mm.
As the Nissan pistons have an 11cc dish Dave also flycut the heads to compensate. Excellent work on all accounts.

Now everything else needs to be narrowed 7mm per side. Intake, exhaust, tinware and mod to the fan housing. Rather than shorten the intake and exhaust i'm considering making a new intake and getting a header system made. Never been entirely happy with the way mine looks. It doesn't need to fit under the deck lid of a streeter anymore so looking at something like A J Sims.

Also fitting a half cage.

new pistons

As the pistons are 8mm shorter than a std volksy piston DB shortened the barrels 8mm along with the pushrods.

DB also flycut the heads to allow for the 11cc dish in the piston.

The intake, exhaust and tinware also had to be modified to allow for the shorter barrels

Cage will be finished this weekend.

Had to make a new seat mount to get side intrusion to fit. Something i've wanted to do for a while.

Engine is together after a small unforseen problem with the Nissan pistons. While installing the last B&P noticed it wouldn't fit in the case. Other 3 were ok.
After thinking the rod was bent investigation revealed that the gap in the piston for the small end, being smaller than a std volksy piston (thought 2mm clearance was ok), was enough to cause this. Long story short all rods out and down to DBs to be narrowed a bit. All good now.

Next job is to make a new turbo exhaust. Then some Jenny Craig treatment to make up for the extra weight.

I'll be coming along to dyno day but i'll leave Frankenstein at home. It's not that much to look at

Narrower and smaller diameter from 1 5/8" down to 1 1/2".
1 5/8" is a tad too big for my displacement.

I was talking the car Brendan, however might do a soup diet the week before Warwick....every little bit helps...

Well considering Warwick isn't far away and is the talk of the town thought i'd show those interested what's been happening to Frankenstein.

The engine is together wirh the nissan pistons and i'm just waiting for some exhaust bits to start welding that together.

In the meantime i've fitted a n expertly bent cage from Westi and his boys which i've since welded in and as i've never been really comfortable with the poly seat i've fitted a Kirkey seat.

There was also some die grinder and hole saw action to counter the extra weight of the cage. More on that to come.

Yeh mate your're probably right but it was the only way I could get it to fit around the old seat. Tried to get it to intersect with the taxi bar like you suggested but wouldn't go with the seat. The rest fitted like a glove though....top work mate

@Stanley will mount the Nissan pistons , failed to come to this prekt to propose to take from Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 10 pistons these very liht pistons and have pitting of 8mm in the very forefront.
I will go to such piston.:dork:

As much as i'd like to I'll wait for Warwick. I'd hate to break it before Warwick plus I have data from last year so will know where I am for the 1/4. Mind you it's put on a bit of weight.

I like symmetry so centred is good good and is easy. What you do for one side you do for the other. Just add 40mm for the offset and the bonus is you can see TDC.

I've been slack and haven't run it since last Warwick. I think it's proved for a 1641 it's quick but i'm over replacing pistons after a race meet.
Aim is to make it reliable and get it down the 1/4 without imploding.

Well after some dramas which was thought to be an MSD problem but turned out to be a dud timing light Frankenstein fired up first go.

Just need to tidy up a few little things like accelerator cable and reset one spring plate and all is go for Warwick.

Changes since last year
Fitted a half cage....thanks again Westi
New MSD....old one shit itself just before Warwick last year so ran with the trusty 009
new Kirkey seat
new 1 1/2 exhaust system. old one was a bit large for a 1641 plus needed to be narrowed to fit engine.
fitted forged Nissan 87mm SR20 pistons. This required shortening the barrels and push rods, narrowing small end of con rods, flycutting heads to account for piston dish (thanks to DB for mall the machining), trimming the tinware by 8mm a side and notching out the fan housing to clear the intake castings. Why the hell would you do that I here everyone asking....maybe i'll leave that for after Warwick.
