well one job has to be done first as apart from the locating grub on the nose cone, they are seperate jobs .........do the bush's first, note the difference.........the engine mounts would have be
$^!* to give described symptoms.........so you do the shift rod and i'll bet it's like a different car.
you do the bush that doesnt require gearbox removal, then do the engine mounts, dare i say, just in case..........
boo moo hoo ha ha haaaaaaaaaaa
sure you got the shift plate right way round, not up side down...etc etc
if nothing else it will arm musturd with some more knowledge on what symptoms are tell tale of...
A........stuffed shift bush
B.......stuffed engine mounts
it's like self education as you go
just keep eating

The other reason apart from Daimo's excellent description above, is why replace a part with an inferior one if it's not f#%^! . Most replacement
parts aren't as good as the older genuine ones your trying to replace. Sure the coupling might be bad, inspect it, check for play and softness of the
rubbers, if ok, leave it, not to mention, the coupling will be removed when doing the bush anyway. As for engine mounts giving those symptoms.....

No wonder I could hear you swearing from here...
It takes 5 mins to unbolt them from the car, and bout 2 mins to compress them on the bench (make that 10.2 secs with a rattle gun )
I tried once compressing the springs in the car, never did that again

Well Now that I have finally had a chance to sit down and do a semi long reply. here goes.
Tips for doing stuff like replacing your whole front end. Spray everything that you're removing with penetrene or crc or something like that. Surface
rust and tight bolts are reallly annoying and difficult to remove. We espcially had issues with the tie rods and the center rod just not wanting to
come out.
Adjust your struts before you put them in the car, if they are the ring clip type. And dont expect for everything to go right the first time (thats
not a surprise to anyone is it?)
so. what else...
The Tie Rods are fantastic. 200 times easier to adjust than stock. smoother to adjust, and nice to be able to get 2 spanners on there like a modern
car.
The only tip I have about tie rod ends, is try your hardest to get the ones will allen key holes in the top. it makes it so much easier, and It would
have helped heaps If I had them on mine - (was so much easier on daves...)
the discs are good, I think. Having really large pad squeal issues that I need to resolve asap. I feel that maybe the pads are just too hard, or need
the sharp edges gone... Will Keep you informed. Otherwise. Happy with the discs. I actually have a solid pedal again, (better than when I got the car
2 years ago) and it stops nearly as well as your beetle Joel (better than my rents commodore.. by a long way) so once the squealing is gone, and i
adjust the drums again (needs to have the hoses done and a bleed) I will be a super happy chappy about my brakes.
What else....
Dave Butler makes the best camber adjusting bushes out there, and I am very thankful for them. Cheers a bunch DB, very much appreicated. Also, (as you
may have seen a few pages back) DB drilled the hugs and pressed in the bush for flipping the tie rods on a super (a topline prduct) - worth it, do it,
works a treat. Cheers DB.
Speaking of topline. We tried using the original camber bolts cause the topline ones had not arrived yet. (the originals were stuffed!!! badly.
couldnt even really use them to adjust the camber.... the job they are meant to do....) So, I must say the Topline ones are worth every cent. went in
no probs. didnt do anything stupid that bolts sometimes do. perfect. Another great topline product. very happy.
Ummm....
To clarify, For quite a while I thought I had a master issue. I don't. I feel it was a combo of inccorectly installed pedals, post clutch cable
replacement (not the recent time, the time before, the recent time contributed to fixing it) and flogged calipers. Many thanks to Joel for the
calipers. they dont make the ticking noise of death... they work.
thanks!
Also, Yesterday Arvo I got new rear shocks put in. Many thanks to Dave Sides for a great deal on those, they are fantastic, ever if it did raise my
rear over an inch. :P Very happy that it feels better over bumps and stuff. Now i just need to get the torsions, bushes and bump stops changed over. I
fear the current torsions are sagged... not so good.
Yes, I do have many more things (in my posession) to happen to colonel in the next few weeks/months.
And Lastly, But defs not leastly, A HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEE thankyou to STIDUB (dave) [toomanydavesssss] for his hard work, garage and food. thanks dude.

Ah. and yes, even though I got a great deal on the struts from Joel, As I dont really want to have skinny wheels forever, I don't plan on changing
the height again.
I do hope someone just gives me a $1800 gift voucher for Vforce... :P

thought about it, but couldnt be arsed taking the bottom bolts out again, could only get a normal ring spanner into 3 of the 6 for some reason, it was
great fun though yeah
i think i need ot buy another air compressor, supershit one died when i tried to be nice & change oil etc, big sucker from trade tools will
replace it id say.

Yes, You should go get the creeper and the items that are on it... and the items on the table, and the table for the cave so we can get moving. I feel
like im going to be there quite a few times in the next 3 weeks, pulling some crazy hours.
as for the concrete... that green acid fixes everything.

Gone to the dry garage of Zane at Coomera.
She's already being pampered. Got the gearbox mount out, went to Roger at southside vw and got some good advice. the mount was fine, but it was the
metal cup around it that roger rekons is the culprit. it wasn't fitting firmly around the mount, and thus when it flexes you get that whack/knock.
Solution, squish it together with a bench vise so there is no room for play . was good fun removing (bruises to show haha). Bought vw rubber torsion bar bushes, might lower the rear end a spine whilst getting into it.
Tomorrow, we will be refitting the gearbox mount and will pop out the rear quarter window for zane to tackle that rust while i do the shifter bush and
maybe a spot of welding on the front of the chassis and pan to fill in that rust after a good poke and wire wheel.
Bloody Zane got the clutch play perfect first time without stalling! i gotta adjust that. so much different compared to the jacked up baja. drifts
very nicely too

Engine mounts were shagged completely and thus were the culprit for the shudders and thumps. One was split in two. Both have been replaced after e
engine was removed, and the front gearbox mount was done anyways. Shifter bush was busted, sitting in the bottom of the tunnel, that has been
replaced. A paper element air cleaner has been fitted as after cleaning the foam filter we could see through the foam across the street. Breather
filter has been cleaned. A quick shifter kit below the stock shifter has been fitted. New tail light lenses as well.
All in all, we both took it for a test drive, and the shifting is now superb and no more flunks or shudders. Yay! Hasn't hurt the budget much yet
either. 22 bums per engine mount. The rear quarter window has been popped out and the rust has been removed and treated. Debating whether to weld or
glass over. To be determined. The door rust has been removed and filled and primed. It's awaiting top coat when the humidity drops.
Thats it for the moment. The kangaroo hopping needs addressing, but the tune up for the engine will come soon and will hopefully sort it. New plugs,
oil and Lucas stabilizer additive awaits. Clutch wing nut needs to be further tightened. Other than that, not far from rwc . Of course electronics await.
