And finally, the rear hatch. Glass out, back to metal, then etch primed. Probably put the latch back in and put it back on for the short term at least.

Thanks to Steve again for his help!

P.S. Don't take pics with bog dust and crap floating around in the air..

Peace out.

It's what they call a 'Flap disc'. Got it from Bunnings or any hardware store. It is an attachment for the grinder, with varying grit compounds. A good thing, but not cheap. Bout $10-$11 per disc.

Jim
You might have to start buying them in bulk when you get to the roof.

Keep up the good work, IT WILL END EVENTUALLY.

And you will be able to have a day without old paint dust all over you.

Cheers

Haven't got to the inside yet Rob, but I can't imagine changing methods at this stage. Looking back, if I had the money, I would probably bead or sand blast it, as long as it wasn't going to create the heat that would warp panels, and I have heard that this can/ does occur.
Dipping.. Not sure.. Don't know that much about that, as I don't know of any places it could've been dipped around here, but thats probably costy too.. Whilst thorough, maybe it would be too thorough, and you would be able to properly rustproof all of the areas that the dipping would cover.. I dunno.. I am thinking out aloud.

Hope this helps.

Jim, sandblasting gets hot and warps the panels especially on a bus, but media blasting of walnut shell blasting shouldnt. But they are both real expensive....Its starting to look the goods mate, keep it up.

I work in a trade outlet industrial tools and abrasives shop, and I can tell you, that if you buy in bulk you should always get a discount if you ask nicely. If someone buys one or two, we have to charge retail single price as it is breaking up a pack.

Flap discs come in boxes of 10 and retail for about $10-11 depending on size.

Jeez.. this all sounds heaps sweet..

Umm Rhett.. SWEET!! 100mm discs?

Peter, is that for the box or each? And 100mm obviously applies to you too.. That would be sweet.

Pete you are a body guru.. Is there anything that you would be doing differently to what I am doing or have done?

Jim.
Some people have all the luck.
Wait till you get to the roof, it makes quite a dim, it amplifies the sound of the grinder.

All the way mate.

You can do it just flat, so in other words just sand it down so there is no ridges or oxidised paint, then hit it with the primer.
Most will tell you that if the old paint has been on for 50 years it aint coming off.

I would do it that way if I was doing one again.

Good Luck.

By the way, when I did the roof, I had neighbours coming out asking what the hell the noise was, so dont do it at night.

Cheers

Quiet weekend, but learnt to weld.. :)

I said earlier about the jig and the tyres/ wheels being crap. Well I got some new ones, and spent Saturday putting em on. You'll probably notice the size difference.

Anyway, I had to do these mods with the bus still on it, and had constant visions of the bus sliding on the modified jack stands and falling off the whole thing altogether.. nightmares maybe.

First pic will probably tell you why. I jacked up the frame to be able to put the jack stands under it, not only for the additional height needed, but also for the room needed in addition to the height needed.. uhh.. I just needed it to move, okay?
