Thanks everyone. I was a bit shocked by the award, but happily excepted it after 4 years work and a few hiccups.

Steve, I told Ian the only reason the sticker is still there is due to all the power and the front tyres hardly being on the ground :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Not sure about putting the car around the track, it's a lot of money to lose if it got damaged at all :fakesniff::fakesniff::fakesniff::fakesniff::fakesniff:

Well done Kevin, your bug looked fantastic you certainly put in the hard long hours to achieve a car of that standard,it was wonderful to see someone willing to restore a beetle to such a level when most are happy to throw on some Chinese wheels ,dump it and call it a rat, hope to see you at some open car shows I think you will do very well.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and kind words.

As to the above quote, I actually said to many people on the day that I had wished my car was outdoors in the sun as that is what really sets this paint off. Was even hard to tell indoors that it is a 3 layer pearl paint, and not a solid orange colour.

Anyway, I built it to drive and drive it I will. I look forward to seeing other VW's out and about. Make sure you give me a wave or toot when nearby and please excuse me if I forget a name or face as my memory is not what it use to be. But that's another story.

Cheers, Kev

P.S. I like this photo of Craig's from the show.

great looking project there Kevin. Looks like lots of $$$ and time spent. I know all about disc bulges as well mate... got one about 4 years back and i still cant work on a car for more than an hour without being in crippling pain. It basically ended my career as a spray painter. Make sure you keep your posture right and use your knees more than your back!! All the best :tu:

Wow, my build thread had been in hiding for over 12 months and it's alive again :crazy:

Thanks for the kind words and yes these cars cost a lot of time and money to do up.

laquerhead, I have had another back blowout since the last one mentioned on here. Put me out of action for at least 2 months.

hus22l, are you fixing up a car or buying one towards the end of the year. You don't need to a car to come have a chat with us when we meeting on the first Friday of the month.

Cheers, Kev

Hey Kev,
As your thread begins "I'm new to this site", so am I (just registered today), & spent a lot of the day reading your build thread.
Looks like your thread has been in "hiding" for about 12 months again, so I'll drag it out again, by commending you not only on the fantastic rebuild of your beetle, but also on taking so much of your obviously valuable spare time to post the photos & accompanying words for the rest of us to enjoy. Hats off also for your openness & frankness when you were struggling on a personal level.
Hope life, & your car, are both travelling well.
Cheers, Muz.

Hi Muz,

firstly, welcome to AVD and thanks for the kind words of appreciation

Yes, it has been a little while since my old build thread has been updated. Not sure if I mentioned this anywhere in this thread, but not long after purchasing this car in 2007 I have always had the intention (or hope) of one day running a turbo, fuel injected motor.

So with that said and I'm not sure if you have seen my other thread or not, but that day is nearly here http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=106069  Hopefully I will have another update on the engine build/install process in the next few days.

Regards, Kev

Thanks and the ones on the car (my best set) I actually got from Boris at Vintage Veedub back in 2008. But I still have a couple of spare sets I have managed to collect just in case ;)

WOW Kev!!!!:tu::tu::tu::tu::tu:

I have just read your build from start to finish and all I can say is WOW!!! Not only an amazing car but from reading all your posts, an amazing person.

I am looking to get back into the DUB scene soon (fingers crossed). My original car was a 66 Bug and I have become quite nostalgic and would like to own another one in the near future.

I still can't express how inspiring your build is to me. It is purely unbelievable what can be achieved with a little knowhow and a lot of determination.

Once again you are an inspiration and deserve all the accolades you receive for your efforts.:tu::tu::tu::tu::tu:

I would love to have a beer with you sometime ...... however I am in Melbourne and don't have any plans of visiting Sydney in the near future.

And I can understand the difficulty that you must have faced to complete such a project. I have been where you were years back and all I can say is it does get better, just stay positive and keep your family close (I know they were my major support in the dark times).

Keep your chin up and ENJOY YOUR AMAZING RIDE!!!!

Wow !! I just found this tread tonight and I've now gone through all the pages, I really love this bug, its so beautiful and cool. I know there is a lot of work behind it so you are well worth all the congratulations and the fantastic response from others. Absolutely fantastic !!
I can thell you that I've done the same job on my bug, from a rusty wreck and all the way to a shiny beauty on the car show. One of the differences is that yours is finer than mine  But another difference is that mine was soooo much more rusty than your sweet little bug, the reason is that mine was born in Wolfsburg and then lived a hard life in Sweden. We have salt on our roads in the winters, salt eats old cars up here
Anyway, I will have a beer with you when I come to Aussie wonderland :tu:

Hi Handy and thank you. I have a relative in Canada and I know of the salt issue they put on the roads. I don't think it is only old cars it attacks though

Yes there is a hell of a lot of work that goes into doing up these old girls and I don't beleive the novices have any idea how much is involved. I now have more appreciation of the prices some ask for their cars that have been restored, of all varieties.

Greg, does this mean I'm famous all over the world. More like Kev, Kev who :lol::lol:

Cheers
