Hey guys, sorry to keep you waiting. Well didn't have the best day on the Dyno, that mysterious cracking sound from sydney appeared instantly. We
tried to find the sorce of the noise but had no luck. Our best power run was only nudging 180hp but sounded terrible doing so. I'm hoping it is one
of the injectors causing a lean miss in one of the cylinders but a comp test in the morning will show if I've done any major damage today. I will
keep ya's posted.

Well It did not check out well. Comp was down on all cyls so pulled the heads again. Basically there is too little sealing surface between the heads
and the barrels for even an aspirated engine let alone a boosted one so some new heads are in order to get me going again. I will load some pics
tonight to show you what I mean.
Cheers Dave!

You can see here the holes for the head studs on these heads are too big and pertrude into the sealing surface way too much.

Have you got copper sealing rings, most 94mm bores are like this, speak to dangerous.

Welding and machining? Gotta be cheaper. That's a bummer Dave. At least there's time fix it before jambo or Warwick....depending on coin that is.

That sort of hole is normal with 94's.... Check your seating surfaces.... If they are not flat, you will have sealling issues for certain.... What
thickness copper gaskests you running?.... Brand?.... I have heard that some worked better once they have been anealed... Have also read that some
gaskets are actually too large in the ID, which makes contact with the piston!!!!

It is hard to tell from these pictures,
but some one has drilled the heads much too large at the stud hole,(compared with how they were when they were made)
so in Dave's case, the sealing surface HAS been reduced more than normal.
This may work for a while with the help of the copper gaskets that were fitted before Sydney,
but even with the added thickness,
the compression ratio is probably still to high for what dave plans.
Simplest option would be a set of the new CB heads the same model.
They come with big chambers too.

Ok, Got my Heads fixed up by DB and had to put new valve springs in so I bought the next siize up Pac racing springs to the ones I had, part no 1520.
they come up pretty good and should seal well enough with head gaskets. I'm also increasing my deck height to around 4mm to drop my compression to
8.5 : 1. This should help with keeping the combustion chamber temps at a more managable range as the outragous deck heights I have now are more than
likely most if not all of the trouble i've been having up to now.
Shims and pushrods should be up tomorrow from Rodney along with heads and shims for Micks drag car so next week I have two motors to build. Should
make for typical run into Warwick/Sydney for us though!
Cheers Dave!

Hey, well I've got my heads back from DB, got my shims and my gaskets from Rod. Set the deck ht today on two cylinders (one on each side) ended up
with a 0.177' shim and a 0.040' shim to give me 2.35mm of deck ht, plus 1.5mm head gasket which is a total of 3.85mm between the piston and the
head. The other side used the same shims plus another 0.020' shim to achieve the same height as the other side. Given the cc's of the heads this
equates to around 8.5 : 1 comp which should hopefully make a big difference in the reliability of this motor.
Cheers Dave!

Got a fair bit done tonight, set the rest of my deck ht's then fitted my heads to see if my push rods would still fit. I had two spacers under them
before and was able to just remove one of them and back off the adjustment a little and they fit so no need to make new ones. I will strip it down
again tomorrow now I know everything fits and assemble it properly. Mick came round and we pulled his motor down ready to test fit all his shims and
stuff.
Heres some pics of our "Race Shop" in full swing lol plus my motor dummied up!
Cheers Dave!

Hey guy's, well had a very productive day, actually just finished, I was finally happy enough with all the measurements to put some sealant on my
barrels and tension my heads down. Set the tappets, all I got to do tomorrow is bolt everything back on to the motor and fire it up!
Also got Micks heads on and tensioned up before we left. We hope to have his motor in and running tomorrow night.
Cheers Dave!

Hey guys, sorry bout the late update but I got my car running on Friday and sounded really good. Smooth idle, much better than before. Temps seem more
controlled, I think the lower comp means less heat so the methanol has half a chance of doing its job of cooling. Few odd jobs to take care of then
she's good to go.
Also got Mick's motor started yesterday, it too sounds really good, we've tested it a few times up dads driveway and soon ran out of tune on the 150
main jets so swapped them out for some 155's and bingo this thing came to life. Let's just say I'm quietly confident with this one this year in
this battle of the 1016's
I even found some time today and decided while I was storing Ben Robinson's Vwma drag bug this week I would go down and grab a new Holley red fuel
pump and replace the blown carter pump for him so he's ready for Warwick too.
Cheers Dave!
