My engine is very far from stock.... But garden variety mild performance spec... Good for high 14's in NA form... No mods to speak of when I
converted it to turbo.
A dbl holley will work fine on a stocker, though finding a manifold could be a problem..... A progressive dbl would be even better, and manifolds are
available..... But if you want real go from your stocker, stick a turbo (T25 or similar) on it and blow through the stock carby would be my advise....
With minor tweaks you can make it happen.... You can even use the stock fuel pump, but it needs to be boost referenced... You could do the whole
conversion for the less than the cost of a pair of reco'd heads!

A good mate here in Perth told me about a mate of his who could do the TIG work for me.... Went to visit him tonight to chat about the project.... Low
and behold, he got stuck into it straight away!

And this is the result....

While I was there I asked him if he'd like to weld up a breather for me too, and where might I source some off-cut ali.... He had what I needed right
there, so this weekend I'll build the breather for the POS.... Awesome!
Great guy, beautiful work.... I'll be going back to see him with the breather next week for sure!

1776cc.... Shimo built (ie awesome!) semi-hemi'd heads with 40x35 valves, 7.5-1 comp, CW DMS Crank, 9lbs FW, Engle 120 cam, Dave Stoker lower pulley,
EDIS/Megajolt ignition, all built back in the early 90's when I lived in Sydney and hung out at Hellbug.... Replaced the used crankcase shortly after
returning to WA back in 94... Traveled across Oz 3 times with this engine, drag raced it (14.8 et), sprinted it, hill climbed it, autokhana'd it,
loads of general commuting, estimate 200k kms since it was first built.... Replaced the rings and reco'd the heads (new exhaust valves, welded some
small crack between the seats, replaced the seats, and a 3 angle cut) last year for the first time.... While the heads were getting some love they
shaved the seating surface 40" so I could fit some copper head gaskets....
Pretty straight forward stuff really....

Did some more this arvo.... Couldn't wait for the Adjust-a-jet to arrive, so bought one for half price from a local V8 performance shop.... While I
was there, I picked up a couple of other parts to make it work better....

With the manifold all cleaned up...

The build up begins....
First I removed the float bowl and fitted the supplied accelerator pump lever...

Then fitted the accessory fuel pickups to the adjust-a-jet block....

Fitted the new gasket and the block of foam that comes in the kit...

Then the adjust-a-jet and the other gasket....
Then I fitted the fuel bowl, making sure the pump lever is aligned correctly...

The jet, o-ring and lock washer was next.... Making sure to no over tighten the jet in the seat...

Read somewhere that a good baseline setting for the jet was 2.25 turns out....

Then I bolted the whole lot up to the turbo.....

Looks good hey?
Next job was to fabricate some carb supports.... I used a tool I made a while back when I did the first build up of this turbo conversion....

It's designed to compress the end of the tube, so as to make it easier to drill out the mounting tab.... Just whack it into a vise and turn, turn,
turn....

Works a treat!

Then I drilled a suitable hole....

After a little jiggery pokery I came up with two supports.... One to the base of the alt, the other to the firewall.... As this engine/transaxle is
solid mounted I figured this should be fine....

Next job is to pull it all down, change out the OEM oil filler, fabricate my new breather catch can, then put it all back together.... With any luck I
should have it running this weekend, and the new breather in the car by next weekend....
Then is time for a tune!!!!

Finished the linkage and linkage support today.... Looks very nice, and works really well....

The POS is ready to fire up.... Still haven't figured out what I'm gonna do with the engine cover, but have cut a very nice hole in it!!!
Still waiting on some parts to arrive from Classic VW.... It's been 3 weeks now!

Tried to start the POS last weekend.... After fighting a few minor issues with the new fuel fittings and lines.... All my mistakes and nothing to do
with the parts....
Then tried to fire her up only to find I have a broken wire to the main ignition power.... Fixed that.... Turned her over..... Nothing.
No map signals on the PC at all as I turn the engine over....
Guess this is what happens when you leave a tuned car laying around for a year.....
Pulled the ecu and engine bay harness out of the car last Sunday.... Stripped all the wrapping off the wires and have started on testing the wires....
Re-did some of the harness to make it ezr to pull from the car in the future.... Once that was done I reconnected it all up this morning....
Hit the shed a couple of hours ago to finish the install then I was set...
On the first turn of the key and only after a couple of seconds of turning over, the POS came to life once more.... Set a little rich on the base
jetting, the car settled to a fast idle (1500rpm) almost straight away.... AFR's are idling around 10-12 and under rev's going pig rich in the
9's!!!!!
The butterflies still have the OEM idle holes in them.... Some say the need to be closed to get the idle down, others say the need to be smaller....
Might have to experiment there....
But the great thing is.... It idles so smoothly (never did with the DCOE), is very light on the throttle and pulls rev's with ease.... Can't wait to
get it on the road...
Got some tuning to do....

Way to go Humpty !!!! There is a formula for sizing the power valve, divide your engines vacuum reading by 2 = power valve size. Say you read 9" of
vacuum at idle, your power valve should be 4.5. If you end up with an even number drop down to the next lower size, as an example 8" would come out
to 4.0 power valve, which would force you to drop to a 3.5 valve. As a referance my 600 holley runs a 4.5 power valve. If you would like to read the
article for yourself here is a link, hope this helps, Mike McCarthy

Wow Mike.... Have you seen me looking around the web trying to find this information these past few hours?.... That's exactly what I was looking
for!!!....
I did find that Matt Davis mention on an old cal-look.com thread that a 1.5 would be the go for smaller engines....
Cheers for the heads-up.....
