Cheers for the offer Mike..... Will keep your kind offer in mind...

A local V8 Performance shop I have been dealing with a for a while has come through with a #1PV.... Apparently 1.5's don't exist...
Anyway... The guys at the shop order the PV in from Melbourne yesterday for me... Will be here this arvo they said.

The intake is getting closer to completion...... This arrived today.....

Nah.... One day maybe, but most likely not with the Holley.... I have EFI for that.... I got this number in the hope it would give me more room to mount the engine cover closer to the body.... The current air cleaner props the engine cover out too much for my liking.... If it doesn't work out, it wont go to waste.... I know of a V8 powered Hotrod that might just get a little turbo charging.... ;)

Oh yeah.... It works perfectly.... The cable runs straight and true, and the butterfly gets full rotation.... There is also plenty of adjustment at that end of the cable as I'm using the Subaru cable as an extension.... On the Holley there is a hole in that part of the lever already, so attaching the rose joint was a snack.... But building the rose joint and cable crimp out of kart parts worked out perfectly.... Parts are cheap, and very easy to source.... They have all sorts of cable connection devices at kart shops!

Gday Simon.
Holley's work good mate, hey? Nothing wrong with a large blunt object instead of a rapier if it does it's job.
Not sure if you know, but the holes in the throttle blades are normally used to get MORE airflow at idle, so soldering the blade up will likely reduce the revs, and if it's too rich at idle then, jam a piece of 15Amp fuse wire in the idle feed circuitry in the metering block (you probably still have my email address if you have more questions).

Good to see the old girl running again. :tu:

Thanks for the tips Dave.... Appreciate the help.... But the idea of soldering up the holes scare me a bit.... I'd hate for the solder to come loose and go through the turbo!!!!
But of course your more than welcome to swing by the Motorplex in the coming weeks to help with the tune.... I know nothing about these holley things, so any advise is most welcome ;)

WOO!HOO! Tuning foir the track, sounds great man! I'd love to do it, but a bit going on, not even racing myself since the Westerns last year.
If it wasn't for the new bubs due next Thursday, and adding a room to our cottage for the little grub to sleep in, and re-assembling the Vmax for the new year, and, and, and.......
I will be down for the Goldenstates in a week and 1/2 though, and the couple of days after before I come back home up here again.
Short of that, I can scan a few pages from the "Holley bible" on the required stuff if you want and send it to you.

Oh yeah, also.......

Holley part no 26-94 is the throttle plates with no holes in them, out of a 650/750 pumper (so you'll have 2 spare blades for when you put one on a NA with IDA-style centre branch manifold. Works good!). That should reduce the idle if you can't set it low enough.

Good thread on the "holes-in-blade" and idle quality here.......
http://speedtalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10606

And yep, I'd love to come around, even if just for a look!

our kit fits under the engine lid with a smaller air cleaner.

ours is a under engine lid turbo kit and it fits with a smaller air cleaner , we made stands offs to be able to fit bigger air cleaner,
I see that your set up sits to high and near the engine lid mounts.

Yeah the compressor housing on my car sits closer to the centre of the car and the whole turbo length is longer than yours too.... My whole setup was built around a DCOE carb too.... Not the Holley.... So there's lots of issues for me to sort out... No biggie.... Just more challenges.

Nothing much on my cars at all.... Its a very busy time at school.... But I had a cruise event the other week ( http://www.noh2o.org/viewtopic.php?t=3059  ), got another in the pipeline for next weekend ( http://www.noh2o.org/viewtopic.php?t=3025&postdays=0&postorder=asc&am... ). Finally not forgetting our biggest VW day is next weekend ( http://www.noh2o.org/viewtopic.php?t=3130  ), so planning and organising events have taken the front seat these past weeks/months...

When I have had time for the cars, I have been moving from one project to another.... Hope to rego my trailer this week (just been working out how to fit the brakes actually), then it's time for a little racing before Christmas I hope.... I'm also knuckle deep into the efi/turbo conversion on the Bus and the rewiring of the T34's dash.... But the POS has not been forgotten.... I have new throttle plates coming in this week I hope, so will be pulling the carb off the car to fit them ASAP.

Final reports are due middle of this week, then its back into the projects.... :)

So the holidays have begun, the chrissy shopping is compete, the fridge is full and the beer is cold..... Time to get back into the shed.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8481.jpg

The POS needs a few little things done... It has to run an engine cover to race, the carb needed some fettling to get the idle down, and to fix a stumble off idle, and the afr's needed some more tickle.... First job was the carb mods.... Been chatting to Rose in Sydney about the combo on her car.... She has a turnkey AJ Sims Turbo engine (I think it was a turnkey?) in the Nude Bug, that seems to be working pretty well.... It's a brand new rig, so she is still getting a handle on it... So far her best time with new combo (after 20 passes) over the 1/4 mile is 13.853. @7psi shifting @5000rpm... Not too bad at all... Will we see a 12 happening in Rose's future?.... Turn up the boost!!!! :D

Here's some video of Rose in action for your viewing pleasure!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8ZALe2d2rw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=YNTk3PeRDWA&NR=1

Anyway.... I had trouble getting the idle down to acceptable levels, and I wasn't totally happy with the advance curve I was running either, so off came the carb for a little tickle...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8487.jpg

These holes in the throttle plates needed filling.... They are letting too much air through at idle, which is the cause of the high speed idle.... And I suspect they are also effecting the afr's too.... So out they came, and soldering up they have been.

Done...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8496.jpg

And refitted...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8497.jpg

While I had the carb in bits I trimmed off this throttle lever too....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8493.jpg

Right from the get go, the idle was heaps better.... Settled down to a nice 1000rpm straight away.... And the afr's are almost bang on....

Next job was the stumble issue.... Found out that I had the accelerator pump lever adjusted incorrectly... There is a small cam on the throttle lever that actuates a secondary lever, that acts against the accelerator pump... Mine was miles out of adjustment.... Fixed that.... Stumble gone.... :D

Next job is the engine cover, then I have to figure out the aircleaner setup.

Too right Doug.... Got heaps done today.... The engine cover is sorted now too.... Still thinking about the air cleaner though.... It's amazing to remember that this engine is still the same one I had in the green Bug.... Built the engine at Hellbug way back 91.... Crankcase has not been split since 94.... Wild!.... Looking forward to getting it on the track now.

Good to see you back by the way.

Here's the engine cover on, how I mounted it, and the next challenge.... The air cleaner limitation....

The mount....
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8514.jpg

On the car....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8517.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8519.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8535.jpg

And how little space I have to wok with....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8527.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8525.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_8522.jpg

Wondering if there would be an issue with milling the choke bell off the top of the carb body?.... Doing that would give me loads more room....

Then I'd be able to use this.... Or something like it...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_1924.jpg

If I did, I'd have to clearance the internal partition....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/POS60T/IMG_1925.jpg

Or possibly try to source one of the LPG hats that Dave (MODNROD) has suggested...

Call me simple.... But if it's a drag bug ( is it still rego'd ?) I would consider just one of the foamie cleaners like the off roaders use perhaps....

17 years is not a bad run on a bottom end is it ?

Talking of your green bug, the old man had it out last weekend, it brings him many grins :) he is just trying to find the time to fit a decent fuel pressure reg to remove a kadron stumble.

I am glad to be back... Tried to convince myself I was cured of vw's but failed.... Now I am finding myself thinking of ways to get one back in my driveway on limited time and budget :)
