Ok. Some new updates for Alyce.
I think I mentioned at some point that I've bought fancy pancy LED brakes lights for the Baja. Well I did a little bit of fabbing this afternoon and
started to fit them.
These are the LED lights that I purchased. I have two and they are both going to go on the engine scoop in the centre of the car.
'Procured' a piece of scrap alloy from work. Bit of cutting grinding and drilling later and both the lights are mounted all pretty like.
More progress tomorrow hopefully!

Now ever since I got the car it's never had an interior light. Well when I was on my LED buying spree I decided to get one.
Dug a few door switches out that I had somewhere at home. And hey presto! Light when the doors are opened. I'm also eventually going to wire it up
with a 3 position (off/on/door) switch in the future.
The light installed in the stock location.
It's nice and bright. I'll try it tonight and see what's it's like in the dark.
Thanks for looking.

Earthworks are done, shed kit is here, and slab is getting done very soon.
And I might need to get sponsored to have my buggy done for Cape. That's only a year away!

Just thought I'd post up pictures of the winch I bought. I got it a few months back off eBay. While tidying my room today I unearthed it.
It's a 4000 pound (just over 1800kg) unit. Has the plasma rope instead of cable which is what I wanted to keep weight down. Came with a solid alloy
fairlaid, solenoid, mounting bolts, mounting plate (too flimsy IMO), cables (too short to reach the VW Battery ), hook with a block on it for doubling back the rope, and a wireless remote that goes on your car keys
(much like a keyless entry dongle). I can't complain for $120 plus $20 shipping!!
It'll lift my car twice over, she weighs less than 900kg.
It'll eventually find it's way onto the car at some stage. Going to need to build a new front bar and I'll probably wait until after the body
lift.

Yeah. The stupid 4WDers that think "I have 4WD drive, my car is the best, there's no need to let my tyres down from the 45psi that I run on the road
in order to tackle this soft dune"
Plus I like to be prepared. You never know when it could come in handy. Plus the weight of the winch (and probably extra battery) out the front it
going to help my weight distribution and handling.
PS - How's the glass work going Mr Steff??

No rush man. I completely understand. You have until the end of September remember?
I've got the spares on the car at the moment so she's still getting driven around. Thinking of heading to 5 Rocks on Saturday, it'll be too easy

Fortunately it seems to have held together.
I noticed a clunk in the frontend last night while driving home.
So I checked it out when I got home this afternoon from work.
It was fine 2 weeks ago before the 5-rocks trip where my clutch went. Because I always check the car over and grease the frontend before I head
offroading for the day.
So it's obviously gone very recently.
There will be pictures at some stage.

I pulled the front barwork, steering box and hubs off the car.
Everything is very dirty, it'll be getting a good clean before it goes back together.
I left the brake lines connected so I don't have to bleed anything after it bolted back together.

The beam is in two halves. Only the torsion leaves are holding it together
I'm unsure if I'm going to put this back into the car straight away. I have a spare empty stock beam here that I might put on for the time being.
Just means she'll be a little bit lower at the front. What are peoples thoughts on this??

The other thing I want to ask able is where I should run my beam braces back to?
Here are a few picture of the front corner.
Should I try and tie it back into the unistrut floorpan edging? Like this picture show below?
The problem with this is I think my wheels are going to rub on the tubing at full steering lock.
Or should I try and make up something that goes onto the two front bolts underneath the framehead. Similar to the beam braces the Country Buggies came
with.
The problem with this it that the bolts were super hard to get in when I put the body on the pan and if I take them out I'm not sure I'll start them
again.
If you have any pictures or ideas on front beam bracing please post them up cause I'd like to try and get this sorted this weekend if possible.
Thanks in advance

OH! those kinda braces...
I went with the idea your dreading with off the shelf beam braces from cip1. There were two kinds, lower braces (bolt in the body bolts) and upper
braces that bolt into the front firewall.
I didn't like the idea of bolting in there, because the image of a front end acident and the steel bar driving into my leg was a bit of a turn
off.
These braces are solid as though. and now that you got the bolts in there already, you atleast know the thread should be nice, clear and clean for
reinstallation compared to how it was initially maybe ???
