Hi

I thought that I would post some photos of my 044 pump and surge tank. Next week I'm going to move the 044 and surge tank to the rear of the car.

I've changed the surge tank layout a little, I was running my return line into the fuel tank, I'm now running it into the surge tank.

I originally had it setup so that fuel returning form the rail would go into the tank and cool a little, I think only relying on the lift pump would maybe make the surge tank run out of fuel during in high demand.

I also made some fill panels for my whale tail out of black perspex and secured them with M5 nutserts and stainless M5 Allen screws.

Hi

I'm waiting on some bits to do my in-tank 044 fuel pump, booked in next month for a tune at a Central Coast Subaru guru.

I've been driving around without any sound system since I got the car on the road, so I now have blue tooth for my phone, Ipod and radio to find out why I'm held up in traffic.

I fitted a JVC unit I've had for about 6 years waiting to be fitted, I also fitted a cup holder on the bottom of the radio bracket.

I also fitted a resistor in my high beam warning light circuit, it was way too bright and while I had the dash apart and I also installed an air intake temperature gauge.

I made up some front speaker mounts, I bolted these into the front footwell area. When I was drilling holes for the nutserts I used a bit of conduit to prevent my drill from going in too far and damaging the inside of the front 1/4 panel, its also handy if drilling near wires etc.

Hi Humpty

We still have my sons 1303, I'm collecting bits for a big oxyboxer for it.

After I get my car tuned I will run it at the Club VeeDub Supersprint in May and the VWMA drags a few weeks later, I hope to do a run at WSID and Wakefield before then to get the cobwebs out.

I'm getting a dyno done, I'm on a Subaru WRX forum and the tuner Michael South Engineering comes with lots of good recommendations

Hi

I've been collecting bits for my in tank 044 pump set up.

A friend has a Mazda Famlia that he tracks and he had a spare fuel pump housing that I could use for my set up.

I went to my local EFI place http://www.afiaustralia.com.au  and scored pump inlet filter, then I had my neighbour turn the 044 inlet fitting down to fit into the filter.

Hi

Bit of an update, thought that I was booked in today for a dyno, its next Friday.

I had Brad at Westside modify my fuel tank to fit my 044 pump internally.

I washed the tank out 4 times with hot soapy water, no surprises

Pictures tell the story.

more stuff, I had Brad fit a Kombi tank sender, it was the only one Vintage VeeDub had in stock with the same ohm reading as my VDO fuel gauge. works great, I put 10 litres in and it read 1/4, filled it up and it read full, my tank holds about 46 litres. The stock 1302/1303 send would have been in the way.

A friend has Mazda Familia track and he gave me one of his spare pump housings, Brad gave a me useful tip, buy the special in tank hose for the fuel pump connection, normal fuel hose will disintegrate over time.

So I went to http://www.afiaustralia.com.au/  and picked up the special hose, I bought the special pre pump sock from them earlier

forgot to say in the previous post, the reason I went in tank pump was to reduce the heat build-up in the pump, I covered the fuel hoses with some 1303 vent hose covered in an insulating tape.

I drove the car last night and the new PWR intrecooler radiator seems to be doing better than the old RS liberty one I had before

the 1303 fresh fan housing cover is held in place by self tappers and speed nuts, I've never liked that so I used some M6 J nuts.

The one complaint I have of the K Mac strut tops is that if I ever need to remove my strut brace I would loose the camber & caster settings, so I drilled out one of the strut brace holes and used a M8 rod joiner in place of the normal nut, now if I need to remove my strut brace to remove my fuel tank I can use the one nut to hold it all in place

Hi

Went for a dyno today on the Central Coast, caught up with Jak for a coffee while I was there.

Didn't make as much as I was expecting, with a few teaks he said it should make another 30-40 kWs

Hi

Its sssooo much fun to drive, it doesn't know what a hill is. I love freeway on ramps.

Horsepower and dyno figures all vary, this motor is rated at 195 kw from the factory, so 172 at the wheels is pretty good, over 200 will be insane.

Is Josh's bug still running or is it like last nights fireworks? A big flash then its ash.

Hi Mick

It ran really sweet with the in tank fuel pump setup, I took the cover of the top of my radiator so the dyno fan could blow on the radiator and fuel tank, oil temps never got over 90c.

He said the variable camshafts settings were all over the place and it was running very rich.

I need to change the dump pipe to a different design, his website has some very useful tips on Subaru engines http://www.msengineering.com.au/  The thing I like about MSE is he races a Subaru so he knows them back to front and he loves Autronic.

He has suggested going back to stock crosspipe and a stock wastegate actuator, he said the boost didnt hit as hard as a normal STI would, he blamed these things for doing that.

Apart from the odd blast on the M5 & M7 I've not taken the car on the open road, it ran really sweet going up the F3, intake temps were just above ambiant and the oil temp hardly moved, the water temp was between 85-90 c.
