Not meaning to be negative, but is there any chance over time, temperature, vibrations and the vacuum created after backing off from big revs could
suck this piece of solder out. I'm think of were it's going to go if that were to happen (not good).
When I first saw the photo I was thinking, I hope you are going to silver solder them in - but it doesn't look like it.
I hope I am totally wrong and the solder is up to the job, I have no expertise in this area. I am just concerned for you and all the hard work you
have put in.
All the best with the car

I think I will have to come along now.... Was planning to take my 6 year old son along to his first drag meet - if the opportunity come to show him a
fast bug and convert him..... I would be silly not to !

Fiddling with some sort of air cleaner set-up.... And I use that term loosely!
This is just the parts sitting there at the minute.... Still need to tack it all together and sort out a mounting stud.... Anyone see any issues with
running this?.... Apart from it not actually being and air cleaner at all....

Better than no air cleaner, but in my experience, a screen can be quite restrictive.
It has quite a bit of surface area, so this may still out flow the carb, or any other restriction down stream.
SO.
Have you sorted out the mixtures BEFORE going to the track?
Hurry up, i am getting old.

Your right Dave.... I just fired up the car and it's definitely running richer... Amazed that it seems to have effected it so..... Good thing I have
a wideband O2 on board.... Gonna have a go at the mixtures again tomorrow.... It ran so sweetly before the mods.... If it's proves to be a pain,
I'll pull the screen off and run without.

the moment.... No boost bleed built in yet..... Will play with the main later today and report back.
Cheers again.

All went pretty well tonight.... Not as quick as I'd hoped, but very productive all the same.... First run was really crap.... Car was running really
bad.... I think on account of the fact that I washed the car this morning.... Every time I wash it, it runs like shit.
I should know better!!!!
Anyway... A really rough 15.4 was the first run.... Came back to the pits, figuring that the plugs had gone bad.... Sure enough.... Sooty as.... Fresh
plugs in and the car runs sweet again.... 14.6 was the next run (I think).... Very lazy off the line... Leaving at 3500rpm... Lazy 60' of 2.06....
Hit 93mph through the traps.... Straight around for another run.... Harder launch at 4k.... Missed the second shift, but trapped 14.4 and 96mph I
think.... Next and last run was very bad.... Running a pro tree this time against a new Nissan Skyline.... First race I lost.... Car bogged really
bad.... Was missing big time on the line.... Really, really crap run.... 14.6 I think... Missing badly.... Plugs have gone again.... But the POS is
making around 7psi, which is what it's set at.
Still have big fuel issues.... The Adjust-a-jet was messed with once tonight.... It's now sitting on 1.5 turns out, and the idle mixture screws are
1.25 out.... Too much at idle obviously, as the engine is producing a bit of black smoke.... I think the 50cc pump diaphragm (squirter jet is a 28) is
too much for the lil'engine.... I have 30cc to put in tomorrow.
These numbers are just off the head.... I have the slips in the car.... Will confirm it all tomorrow.
A very successful evening out.... Still heaps to do, but all in tiny steps.... I can't thank everyone enough for coming to the track today.... The
officials all really liked the car... The scrutineers loved it... it sounds awesome, looks the part, launches well and runs straight.... Time to boost
it up!

It's very frustrating for sure, but the it's running heaps better than with the weber.... Still not certain the ignition is right, but I know the
fuel is rich... If that is caused by an incorrectly timed ignition, I don't know...
I think the issue with the ignition is more down to how I have mounted the sensor than anything else.... The way it's fixed, makes it hard to read
the timing marks, so it's hard to determine timing accurately.... Also.... The bracket is clearly not strong enough as it looks like the sensor has
touched the timing wheel, so things might be out of whack..... I'm going to redo the sensor bracket and build in some adjustment.

Good news Simon. Baby steps is the way to go.
Mine used to soot the plugs up something fierce when I was running low compression.
I knocked the idle up to help it burn off some of the fuel. Even with the 600 Holley i don't have that issue anymore running higher compression.
Timing could also be part of the problem as you say and might be an easier fix. Jetting will also help.

Humpty - hope you dont mind if I post a couple of photos ?
Crowd support was good for the bugs too. Unfortunately Herman's usually reliable (10 years on same combo) 2.7L type 4 has serious overfuelling issues
and only completed one (ugly) run, bending traction bar and generally being a pig.
Rolling up to start line. Sadly, no epic bogan burnouts
Humpty's first run (about a 15.6 from memory), he still won even with the sooted plugs.
Another run later in the night. From memory, the third of his succesive mid 14 passes, with nasty bog on the start line.
One of the supporters in the pits (didnt catch a name)... low enough to gain approval from my son.
Hermans monster on its only run... didnt catch the time.
And there was a very tasty blue split (barnie I think) microbus in the car park outside too !

roses bug only seems to get a bit fuely after idling to long.
on the road its great to drive.
i think we have to do it like top fuel cars just start it before the race.
Talking about fueling up those top fuellers make your eye water.

I have found more information on the carb setup.... There is one other thing that I need to do to the carb to make it work for me.... All this info is
hard to pull together, but I'm getting there.... It's mostly down to me asking the right questions.... And I can only ask the questions, when I have
the experience and seat time done...
The car is killing plugs after only a couple of runs.... I have since found out that the issue is a common one, but one that is easily solved.... I
need a smaller accelerator pump shot.... Which I suspected was a potential problem before I went racing.... After Wednesday's T&T, I know this is
the problem....
I feel I'm getting very close to making the good power I know this little engine can make.... I still think that a mid 13 is there with the current
setup (7psi).... Short gears and all.... Once the carburetor is sorted, I'll need to work on the launches and then more boost will be thrown in....
Then we will see some good numbers....
Then it's time for a built transaxle, HD axles and the stroker!
