Thats definately right, but ferdinand set the height of the front beam on the VW for a VW and a VW is not a porsche!
I do like the look of a slightly lower stance, but it has always been my experiance that if you play around with with stock settings, it compromises
other things, its like a domino effect. I spose the easiest way to explain it is like this.
Take the stock VW gearbox, axle and wheel bearing assembly. Engineers use their stress & load formula's when they are desigining these
componants. One of the things in this chain is the wheel and tyre, for my 56 the wheel is 15" and the tyre is a 5.60 crossply. If I put a modern
165x15 radial on the rim. the greater width of the tyre put's a stress and load on the rest of the drivetrain that it was not designed for, if you
put even wider rims on (6" or 7") it then gets even worse. You may not think it is doing much, but what you can't see wont hurt, and a few years
down the track the box and the bearings have worn more than they should have, it's starting to give trouble and the owner is saying Bloody VW's
unreliable heaps of junk!
I have always keeped my cars and bikes stock, PPL are amazed when I tell them the mileage's I get out of my engines, clutches brakes and other
running gear. My kombi has done over 300.000 and has never had the heads off or been opened up. she has gone through one set of wheel bearings in the
front, the rears I have never changed since I have owned her, (over 15 years) I have only had one set of new CV's as well. I leave all the suspension
settings stock and run stock tyre size's.
The 56 I just bought has been owned by the same man for 20 years he was the second owner. He has left her stock, even running the original size
and spec new crossply tyres. She is still going strong, and is 48 years old.
I can tell you in all honesty without lying. I have a friend with a lowered Kombi, running mercedes rims and low profile tyres whenever he rides
in my Kombi he always comments on how nice it rides and how comfortable it is, but lowered looks better! I have to have a little chuckle.
When I was a young bloke (decades ago) I used to have a hot 64 Holden with wide wheels and an engine built by a well known speedway mechanic. I
used to look at those old blokes with their 1930's chev's and fords (box stock) and think "silly old buggars" but their cars had been going
basicly untouched for more than 30 years! Now I am one of those silly old buggars trying to enlighten young blokes like Kafer!
Its a tough job, but someone has to do it!

Actually I do have a cap. Its a Shandon, 8 pice made in Ireland. (not England) I don't have a tweed jacket with leather elbow patch's yet but Im
working on it!
And Byronbus, your kombi has talked to mime on quite a few occasions and she wants to know why she is shorter than mine! I keep telling her not to
worry it's only a passing fad and one day she will be restored. Pige keeps telling me she is a bit worried about her too! you know she will get
arthritus if you dont do something about it soon.

Ahhh
Have to wax the Oval before a sunday club run, can't have her being disgraced by lesser machinery! Mustangs and Plymouth's and the like. I tell her
everything that goe's on here, and about the way you bloke's gang up on me, and treat my advice with contempt. She just gives me some sounds of
encouragement and tells me not to give up! Her brothers and cousins need someone to stand up for them.
